New Content - Always!
Thousands of new and updated message board discussions, journal abstracts and other information resources are added to the VIN Database and Library each month.

Above and beyond what the VIN Content Team creates and indexes, many VINners create and contribute up-to-date summaries on timely topics.

Save time. Search the VIN Database, and check the Medical FAQs and the VIN Library (see MyToolbox) -- before you post.

The Anesthesia/Analgesia Center can be reached through the About this Folder page in the Anesthesia/Analgesia Message folder and through the Specialty & Species page of the Library.

Factors associated with the occurrence of epistaxis in natural canine Leishmaniasis (Leishmania infantum)
Canine leishmaniasis-associated epistaxis appears to be the result of multiple and variable pathogenetic factors such as thrombocytopathy, hyperglobulinemia-induced serum hyperviscosity, and nasal mucosa ulceration.

Prevalence of myocardial hypertrophy in a population of asymptomatic Swedish Maine coon cats
Depending on the reference values used, the prevalence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in this study varied from 9.5% to 26.2%. Appropriate echocardiographic reference values for Maine coon cats and diagnostic criteria for HCM need to be further investigated.

Efficacy of tolfenamic acid and meloxicam in the control of postoperative pain following ovariohysterectomy in the cat
Tolfenamic acid and meloxicam administered preoperatively provided a similar analgesic effect in the postoperative period lasting 24 hours.

Blocked male cat with huge mass
Based on where your catheter stops, I suspect the only urethrostomy option would be a prepubic, but you could also consdier a temporary cystostomy tube.

Refeeding raptors
As a small animal GP, I've seen hepatic lipidosis cats do this as they are started on a liquid diet via a esophageal feeding tube. Has anyone investigated whether this same phenomenon might occur in raptors?

Working with frustrating anal gland issues
It seems like lots of these dogs have underlying allergies. My hypothesis is that when they have allergies, the puncti swell and close a bit, thus preventing the secretions from escaping. So the dog ends up with a full and uncomfortable gland.

Avian radiography restraint tips; anesthetize birds for radiographs?
It seems the main concern I'm encountering is whether patients can take anesthesia when ill to the point of indicating radiographs.
