National Veterinary Technician Week is Oct. 9-15. Please take a moment to complete this survey in honor of your right hand veterinary support staff and help us spread the word about veterinary technology and VSPN. The survey focuses on how you utilize and support your support staff. In a few weeks, the results will be compiled and made available for review.
Canine Flu And Panicking Clients: What's the scoop?
Read about the latest panic wildly making the rounds of the internet dog lists. The difference with this one is, it has a call to action by recipients. Join the discussion and be informed ahead of time!
Welcome to MedRx, the newest folder participant in the Vet Industry message board!
We're excited by the opportunities to share knowledge and support that MedRx, will bring to the VIN community. Please take a moment to welcome our newest addition to the Vet Industry message board. Remember to post your questions about the company's services. (While you're in the industry folders, check out all of the other companies that are willing and able to answer your product questions!) A Note From Paul About Industry on VIN: As a result of the recent rapid rise in the number of industry folders on VIN, a few have written to ask if VIN has changed its position regarding independence from industry. Rest assured that nothing has changed. VIN remains committed to the VIN Policies on Commercialism. We all benefit from increased communication and access between colleagues in practice, academia, and industry. Facilitating this communication is our goal. We are pleased that more of our colleagues in industry are recognizing this and joining the discussion.

Evaluation of Compliance Among Nursing Staff in Administration of Prescribed Analgesic Drugs to Critically Ill Dogs and Cats
Cats were less likely than dogs to receive analgesics after traumatic injury, but the difference was not significant. There was no difference between species in frequency of prescription of analgesic drugs after surgery. Most patients were prescribed a single class of analgesic drug; only 13% had orders for multiple analgesics.

Tracheal Laceration
I have an approximately 24-36 hour old wound on a yearling stud colt's neck. The owner said he could see puffs of steam in the air around his neck. He decided he couldn't keep up the care and said he would deliver it to the clinic I work at and give me the colt if I would do my best with it. So, money isn't much of an issue, since now it's mine. Any suggestions, help, criticism, advice, etc. would be most greatly appreciated.
Refractory Eosinophilic Granuloma, Previous Response To Hypoallergenic Diet, Cat Also Has Asthma
Cats with GI/pancreatic/liver disease can have low cobalamine levels and become resistant to other treatments for IBD until the cobalamine is corrected.
Glargine And Diet For Treating Newly Diagnosed Diabetic Cats: Remission Of Diabetes In All Cats Studied
Initial results with the glargine suggest that a significant percentage of treated cats will become non-diabetic within the first 4 months of therapy. But, all those cats were also on a low-carbohydrate/high protein diet (canned Purina DM) and stayed on that diet even when non-diabetic.
How To Get Culture And Cytology Samples From Fish's Skin Lesion
Take a glass coverslip (you can use plastic, but I prefer glass). Hold it at a 45 degree angle to the fish and scrape gently in a cranial to caudal direction over the lesion. You do need to apply some pressure, but too much will crack or break the coverslip. Place the coverslip with the "goo" on the prepared glass slide. Examine under microscope. Look for moving parasites ...
