Are you ready for National Veterinary Technician Week (October 13 to 19)?
What are you doing to make your technicians feel valued? Remember, veterinary technicians are important members of your veterinary health care team. Maintaining their certification, registration, or licensure through the completion of continuing education (CE) impacts the success of your team. Why not honor your technicians this National Veterinary Technician Week with opportunities for CE? The Veterinary Support Personnel Network, in a cooperative effort with VIN, offers a variety of courses for your support staff that they can participate in without the inconvenience and expense of travel! Learn more about VSPN CE here.

Effects of milrinone on hemodynamics and regional blood flow in the hypoxic dog.
These results suggested that milrinone protects against hypoxia-induced organ damage especially in the kidneys. In addition, milrinone is very potent in improving severe congested hemodynamics which complicates hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction.
Trilostane treatment of 78 dogs with pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism.
Polyuria and polydipsia completely resolved in 70 per cent of the dogs that had these problems, and skin changes resolved in 62 per cent of the dogs that had skin abnormalities. There was a significant reduction in both the mean basal and post-adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) cortisol concentrations after a mean of 12.3 days of treatment. The post-ACTH cortisol concentration decreased to less than 250 nmol/litre in 81 per cent of the dogs within one month of the start of treatment and in another 15 per cent at some later time.
Seasonal interaction of serum vitamin D concentration and bone density in alpacas.
Seasonal changes in bone mineral density are associated with changes in serum vitamin D concentrations in alpacas. Changes in bone mineral density associated with a decline in serum vitamin D concentration may predispose some alpacas to developing fractures with minimal trauma.

Trach Tubes: Which Brand?
For smaller dogs and cats (tube sizes 4- 7 mm especially), the tubes are much too long for the critter size. Cut them to length (shoulder joint to incisors is about right length). If you don't cut, they either hang out mouth and increase deadspace or get shoved down a bronchus creating a v/q mismatch. Either way is bad.
Assoc. Non-Compete vs Practice Purchase Non-Compete
These states that will not enforce non-competes for associate employment contracts (notably California and Texas) will permit reasonable non-compete terms in the sale of a practice.
Is Bad Insulin The Reason For Poor Regulation?
If you are going to use PZI (the Blue Ridge product is good), then get the right stuff. Compounded insulin has no quality control and bad insulin is worse than no insulin.
