Can I Share What I Learn on VIN? Learn How to Do it Right!
VIN members use the knowledge they gain from VIN in their practices every day. But have you ever wondered if it's okay to print out a thread to share with a client, or if you can use VIN information on your clinic website? The VIN community's Privacy Policy -- generated by the VIN Community, for the VIN Community -- will help answer those questions.

Infection with parasitic nematodes confounds vaccination efficacy
Demands for new and effective vaccines to control chronic and emerging diseases, and the need for rapid deployment of vaccines for bio-security concerns requires a systematic evaluation of confounding factors that limit vaccine efficacy. One common, albeit overlooked, confounder is the presence of gastrointestinal nematode parasites in populations of humans and livestock targeted for vaccination. This is particularly important in areas of the world where helminth infections are prevalent, but the interplay between parasites and emerging diseases that can be transmitted worldwide make this a global issue.
Magnesium disturbances in critically ill patients
Hypomagnesemia is most often associated with decreased intake or increased loss of magnesium through renal or gastrointestinal routes.
A surgical approach to the lateral compartment of the equine guttural pouch in the standing horse: Modification of the forgotten "Garm technique"
The modified Garm's technique can be performed safely in standing horses and may be of value in providing access for lavage and drainage in horses with mild guttural pouch empyema.
Bacterial Folliculitis
Bacterial folliculitis (sweat spots) is one of the commonest causes of focal hair loss in the horse. Initially the infection is restricted to hair follicles, but extension from the hair follicle into the epidermis can result in true furunculosis or pyoderma.

Sharps disposal
Just checking with sharps disposal costs and have seen how mine have risen. I put whole syringes and all vaccine bottles in. Some have said that can just put needles in and destroy syringes with a scissors or bush trimmer and throw vaccine vials away. What's the real law? Does it change from state to state?
Veterinarian refuses to work with MRSA positive staffer
A technician at our practice has two family members that had MRSA infections. Her doctor took a nasal swab to culture and she came back positive for MRSA, but has not had any active infections. I believe her doctor put her on a course of antibiotics.
Milk withholding time for goat dairy
Client just starting a goat dairy. I have not been able to find much in the way of milk withdrawal times for medications in dairy goats. FARAD hasn't been a rewarding search(unless I'm using it wrong). Where can I can find useful information to put on prescription labels?
Fluticasone for feline asthma?
I have been searching here and on the internet to try to determine what is the most current recommendation is for starting cats with moderate asthma on inhaled fluticasone.
