How Big is the Average Small Animal Practice in the USA

No one seems to know the answer for sure. What do you think? 1, 2, 5, or 20 veterinarians?
Please take this 20 second survey.

VINning From Scratch
Whether you're a brand new VINner wondering where to begin or a long time member who wants to learn more about getting the most from VIN, the VIN Front Page is the place to start!

Check out the Daily Pearl on the left side of the page for breaking news, new Online Proceedings and links to bios for your favorite VIN Consultants and Reps.

The Clinical Updates in the center of the page change every day and keep you in touch with information from journal abstracts and message board discussions.

On the right side, you'll find links to some of the most popular features such as Dx Challenges, the Abstract of the Week and Recent Rounds, to name just a few.

Have fun exploring the VIN destinations highlighted in the VINDEX (top right of the Front Page)!
And now...you can access the VINDEX from almost anywhere on VIN. Just hit CTRL-E (press E while holding down the CTRL key) on your keyboard and up pops the VINDEX, front and center, on your screen.

Browse the VIN Bookstore! VIN Members save 10% or more off the list price every day and get free shipping on US orders of $90.00 or more.

If you get stuck or have questions, contact VIN membership services Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm PST or e-mail VINgram@vin.com anytime!

New Content - Always!
Thousands of new and updated message board discussions, journal abstracts and other information resources are added to the VIN Database and library each month.

Above and beyond what the VIN Content Team creates and indexes, many VINners create and contribute up-to-date summaries on timely topics.

Save time. Search the VIN Database, and check the Medical FAQs and the VIN Library -- before you post.

Ultrasonographic study of deep portion of diencephalo-telencephalic vesicle for the determination of gestational age of the canine foetus
This study demonstrated that the accuracy of the prediction of parturition day obtained by ultrasonographic evaluation of diencephalo-telencephalic (DPTV) growth is reliable when specific formulae for different size dogs are applied. It should be noted that although foetal sex ratio does not affect the accuracy, the prediction could be less accurate when a small litter is present.

Pharmacokinetics of controlled-release carbimazole tablets support once daily dosing in cats
The pharmacokinetics of this controlled-release formulation of carbimazole supports its use as a once daily treatment (both as a starting dose and for maintenance therapy) for cats with hyperthyroidism.

Safety, pharmacokinetics and use of the novel NK-1 receptor antagonist maropitant (Cerenia) for the prevention of emesis and motion sickness in cats
Safety of maropitant was determined following 15 days of subcutaneous (SC) administration at 0.5-5 mg/kg. Maropitant (1.0 mg/kg) was highly effective in preventing motion-induced emesis in cats.

    Instrument choices for meniscus surgery
Currently I'm just using forceps and a 15 blade but I'm having a terrible time with those. Am I missing some great instrument/blade for use in debriding torn ligaments and doing partial menisectomies?

Foreign body removal in a shark
The curator of an aquarium I am involved with thinks he has a Sand tiger shark / Grey nurse with a foreign body in the stomach. I have not seen the shark yet but he feels it may be a large ingested rock.

Medication recommendations for geriatric dog with constant pacing at night
Consider phenobarbital at night to get the dog to sleep through the night. And if you alternate with gabapentin, you may avoid the development of tolerance, so that you get the desired sedation with each dose.

Feeding canned foods in cats: risks, benefits, and does canned food worsen dental disease?
Is canned food good for teeth? Absolutely not. But I don’t see dry food as any better, and dry food has many negatives associated with it.
