The Winn Feline Foundation was established by the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA, http://www.cfainc.org) in 1968 to create a source of funding for medical studies to improve the health and well-being of cats. Transcutaneous tibial implants: a surgical procedure for restoring ambulation after amputation of the distal aspect of the tibia in a dog
Assisted ambulation was restored immediately postoperatively and unassisted locomotion occurred at 7 days. At 14 months, aseptic loosening of the right implant occurred, it was removed and a 2nd transcutaneous implant was fabricated and implanted. At 26 months after initial surgery and 17 months after revision of the right implant, function is restored at a walk, trot, and run.
Surgical technique to repair grade IV rectal tears in post-parturient mares
In standing mares, rectal tears can be exteriorized by prolapse through the anal sphincter after sphincterotomy and repaired in 2 layers with staples oversewn with a continuous suture pattern.


Coping with the hysteria over new parvo
We've been getting a lot of calls about the "new" parvovirus strain. From what I've found with my VIN searches, I understand there is indeed a parvovirus 2C strain that is "new " to the US and is showing increased virulence, with a higher mortality than the "old" strain. How to tap a stifle joint
I would add that I always find it neccessary to heavily sedate (or anesthetize) the patient, clip the fur over the stifle, and do a surgical prep before performing the arthrocentesis. Sweet or not, she isn't going to thank you for sticking a needle in her stifle joint if she's awake.
Which brands of urinary diets should we stock?
I would never restrict myself to one manufacturer because, like it or not, diets doing the same thing just are really not doing the same thing. I go back and forth depending on nutrients of concern and issues that I see.
Where to apply transdermal methimazole in cat that has no ears
This cat has had a bilateral pinnectomy. Could you give me a recommendation for the best alternate place to apply the medications?
