Be Computer Smart!
There are some nasty viruses floating around out there right now, so be careful! Here's a few tips to remain virus-free and happy!

  1. Keep your virus software up to date.
  2. Download NOTHING -- unless you are absolutely positive it is safe.
  3. Use the maximum safety settings, if using Outlook/Outlook Express.
  4. Use a firewall, if you have broadband access.

Click the link on VIN's Front Page to learn more about computer safety.

Prevalence of Mucopolysaccharidosis Type VI Mutations in Siamese Cats
... the mutation D520N, which causes a mild clinical phenotype, was identified in 23 of 202 (11.4%) alleles tested in Siamese cats from 3 continents, 2 of which were homozygous for D520N. Practitioners should note the high incidence of degenerative joint disease in these animals.

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Amplification of Parvoviral DNA from the Brains of Dogs and Cats with Cerebellar Hypoplasia
This study shows that parvoviral DNA can be amplified from feline and canine archival brain tissue and that cerebellar hypoplasia in dogs might be associated with in utero parvovirus infection.

ECG #9 - Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia With Junctional/High Ventricular Escape Complexes
The closer to the AV node the ventricular escape occurs, the more normal it will look, including the P wave. That is the reason I put this one on line!

Propofol As An Alternative To Thiopental?
Do you all get the impression that recovery is significantly more comfortable with propofol induction? I use ket/vat most of the time, but find myself moving more to propofol induction, because patient comfort seems much superior.

Organ System and ABVP Core Examination Review Module C

  • Does your heart race when trying to decipher those cardiology problems?
  • Does your stomach churn when faced with a tricky gastroenterology case?
  • Does your skin crawl when a chronic dermatology case walks through your door?

VIN CE can help! Even if you aren't going to take the exam, the depth and breadth of the material in this last module will provide you with an up-to-date review of the pathophysiologic mechanisms that underlie the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of these organ systems in dogs and cats. VIN's 16 credit hour Organ System and ABVP Core Examination Review, Module C, will help you understand why the organ systems in this review do what they do.
