New Fraud Scams -- Protect Yourself and Your Web Address
If you receive a faxed official looking bill from the “Official Internet Registry & Optimization Bureau” for “Annual Website Monitoring Bundle”, toss it away. The bill has an official looking emblem with a note to “Forward to Accounts Payable” “Second Reminder” etc. etc.

This bill also has some fine print where you would agree to transfer your domain name so they can renew it as part of the service, etc. etc. This is a scam to fraudulently bill for services and attempt to hijack a domain name. Read more about it on the Message Boards.

A Note From Paul About Industry on VIN:
As a result of the recent rapid rise in the number of industry folders on VIN, a few have written to ask if VIN has changed its position regarding independence from industry.

Rest assured that nothing has changed. VIN remains committed to the VIN Policies on Commercialism.

We all benefit from increased communication and access between colleagues in practice, academia, and industry. Facilitating this communication is our goal. We are pleased that more of our colleagues in industry are recognizing this and joining the discussion.

Lactoferrin expression in the canine uterus during the estrous cycle and with pyometra
These results suggest that, in the canine uterus, lactoferrin expression is related to the blood concentration of estrogen, and that the dramatic reduction in lactoferrin observed at the early stage of diestrus may impair antimicrobial defense.

Work-related stress in the veterinary profession in New Zealand
Women experienced more work-related stress and depression than men, veterinarians in small animal/mixed practice reported more stress and depression than those in other types of work, and younger veterinarians experienced higher levels of stress than older veterinarians. The main sources of stress were hours worked, client expectations, and unexpected outcomes. Respondents were also stressed by the need to keep up their knowledge and technical skills, and by personal relationships, finances and their expectations of themselves.

An outbreak of iritis and uveitis in dairy cattle at pasture associated with the supplementary feeding of baleage
Outbreaks of L. monocytogenes-associated bovine iritis have almost exclusively been associated with the feeding of silage. In such cases, the source of the bacterium is primarily soil contamination of the grass during cutting and/or wilting. In addition, bovine iritis is more commonly associated with the feeding of silage preserved in bales (baleage) rather than in stacks or pits.
