Like Music To Your Ears...
While they may not feature guitars or violins, VINcasts will be music to your ears. If you miss a VIN Rounds and don't feel like reading the transcript, now you can listen to it from your computer or download it to your iPod or other MP3 player. Good news: now you can take VIN with you to the gym, in your car or to your backyard. Bad news: one less excuse for not staying current.

And if the voice sounds familiar, it's our own Nate Lissant. He scripts, records and edits the VINcasts . Let Nate know what you think.

Azodyl in Renal Failure Trial - The ART of VIN

Are you an ARTist? VIN and the VIN Foundation are embarking on our first clinical trial - ART (Azodyl in Renal failure Trial) and we want your help.

If you have a feline patient with chronic renal failure and would like to participate in this trial please see see the protocol page and participate in the Message Board discussion for potential enrollees.

Check and see if one of the many listed clinical trials might make new or novel therapies available for your patients.

Be a part of the solution. Help lead the way in answering questions that matter.

Nutrition Course CE Survey
In a few weeks, a new FREE VIN CE course, Current Issues in Small Animal Nutrition, will begin.

One important question/issue the instructors plan to address is the past, present and future state of nutrition education being taught to colleagues during and after veterinary school.

In preparation for the class the instructors want to collect up-to-date information about where and how you and all VINners gain knowledge about nutrition. The results will be shared with all VINners.

Please help us help you and all VINners by responding to this short survey. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete.

Bilateral vestibular syndrome in a DSH cat: video and CT findings
This case report of bilateral vestibular disease in a cat documents the radiographic and CT findings, and records the unique neurological examination findings via video imagery.

An investigation of the bacterial contamination of small animal breathing systems during routine use
Sterile anaesthesia breathing systems were colonized by environmental micro-organisms of low pathogenicity. Although long-term survival of recognized pathogens in a dry environment is still possible, the use of a bacterial filter or a sterilized breathing system for routine veterinary anaesthesia cannot be supported by current evidence.

Oxidative stress
The evaluation of oxidative stress in the horse has been limited primarily to ischemia-reperfusion injury of the gastrointestinal tract, recurrent airway obstruction, exercise, osteoarthritis, equine motor neuron disease, and pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction. Each of these is examined in this review in terms of the current evidence for oxidative stress as well as the evidence for current antioxidant therapy in equine medicine and the potential of future research and therapies.

Characteristics of the relationship between plasma ketamine concentration and its effect on the minimum alveolar concentration of isoflurane in dogs
The relationship between plasma ketamine concentration and its effect on isoflurane MAC has a classical sigmoid shape. The parameter estimates reported in this study will allow clinicians to predict the expected isoflurane MAC reduction from various plasma ketamine concentrations in an average dog.

Multiple cartilagenous exostosis in an australian shepherd
Multiple Cartilagenous Exostosis has a hereditary basis and is not known to be associated with nutritional factors. These exostoses form during development and then usually stop growing at skeletal maturity. There have been a couple of cases reported where the darn things kept on growing after maturity, but that appears to be the rare exception.

Determining the best treatment plan for a dog with localized demodicosis; interpreting the DNA test for ivermectin sensitivity in dogs
If spreading, even if it is localized, then go ahead and treat. If it is not spreading, I would not treat.

Questions about paid vacation time for associate being paid on production
There are many thoughts out there on how to handle vacation pay. An important point: employees need some time away from the rigors of practice to recharge & hopefully come back ready to hit it hard again. On this point, I think most owners & associates agree in principle, though not in method of calculating compensation for this period away from the practice.

Disc disease and fecal incontinence in an older dog
Great case - it emphasizes how behavior and medical problems can be so intertwined.
