Featured Item: Veterinary Dermatology - A Manual for Nurses and Technicians List Price: $44.95 VIN Member Price: $40.46 Authors: Frances Jane Mary Gaudiano, VN, Certificate in Dermatology, CertEd, Consult Nurse, Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, Royal Veterinary College, Herts, UK; and Cathy Curtis, BVetMed, DVD, Dermatology Referral Specialist Description: Dermatology is a complicated subject that is rarely covered from a veterinary nursing perspective. Each chapter features multiple figures, diagrams, tables, and individual disease sections that are organized to assist readers who need a quick reference. The practical nature of the book makes it ideal for equine practitioners, veterinary students, ophthalmology residents, and veterinary ophthalmologists.

Hereditary Spectrin Deficiency in Golden Retriever Dogs
Spectrin deficiency may occur in 11.2-24.6% of Dutch Golden Retrievers. Pedigree analysis in 10 dogs of an apparently healthy family of 19 Golden Retrievers revealed autosomal dominant inheritance.
Immunohistochemical Detection of HER-2/neu Expression in Spontaneous Feline Mammary Tumours
The results from this study suggest that Her-2/neu overexpression is common in cats with spontaneous MGT, and therefore appears to represent an excellent model for Her-2/neu-overexpressing human breast cancer.
Ulcerative Dermatitis, Thrombocytopenia, and Neutropenia in Neonatal Foals
This report describes transient ulcerative dermatitis, severe thrombocytopenia, and mild neutropenia in 6 foals from 4 mares. The findings in the cases in this report suggest a possible relationship between colostral antibodies or some other factor in the colostrum and the thrombocytopenia and skin lesions, although further investigation is warranted to confirm or refute this hypothesis.
Acute Clinical, Hematologic, Serologic, and Polymerase Chain Reaction Findings in Horses Experimentally Infected with a European Strain of Anaplasma phagocytophilum
The PCR used holds promise to widen the diagnostic window and would also be diagnostic during the initial days of clinical disease when inclusions in neutrophils in blood smears are not yet apparent.

How Do You Use VIN?
I'm just curious what others do after they log onto VIN! I typically will check the same boards in the same pattern every time. What boards do you frequent, what are your favorites, and do you have a pattern?
Client Retention
New clients consist of new clients plus old clients who have not been in for at least 3 years. According to Wutchiett and Assocs, you need 20 new clients per month per doctor. So a 1.5 doctor practice needs to see 30 new clients per month. Your active client numbers are going down. Gerry Snyder says that practices have been seeing 10% fewer clients per year for the last several years.
Offering A Litterbox "Cafeteria"
As for litter type, why not offer a litter box cafeteria? Different boxes, and different litters in different locations, and see what the cat likes? After all, it is his toilet!
Treatment Options For Greyhound Corns; Photos Of Greyhound Corns
The consensus seems to be that these "corns" or "digital keratomas" are common in Greyhounds (racing or pet) and may be secondary to either traumatic implantation of glass, sand, or other foreign material, or due to papillomavirus infection, or maybe both, or idiopathic? So no one knows for sure. The papillomavirus has been isolated in some cases, and not in others, by IFA. Recommend radiographs to look for foreign bodies, but rarely found.
