Fracture of the Small Tarsal Bones and Luxation of the Tarsal Joints in Horses
Radiographic confirmation of a central or third tarsal bone fracture can be difficult because the fracture fragments are often only minimally displaced and a fracture line may not be detectable on standard projections.
A Randomized Controlled Trial of Misoprostol Monotherapy for Canine Atopic Dermatitis: Effects on Dermal Cellularity and Cutaneous Tumour Necrosis Factor-Alpha
These observations confirm the modest efficacy of misoprostol for treatment of canine AD and suggest that its mild anti-allergic effects are not associated with either inhibition of inflammatory cell emigration or TNF alpha production.
Retrospective Evaluation of Sex Hormones and Steroid Hormone Intermediates in Dogs with Alopecia
When compared with normal dogs, oestradiol was significantly greater in Keeshond dogs and progesterone was significantly greater in Pomeranian and Siberian Husky dogs. Chow Chow, Samoyed, and Malamute dogs had the greatest percentage of normal steroid hormone intermediates of the dogs in this study.
Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis in Labrador Retrievers
Hereditary nasal dermatitis is reported in 14 Labrador Retrievers and 4 Labrador Retriever crosses. This appears to be a newly described inherited disorder for which an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance is suspected. The lesions were first noted between 6 and 12 months of age.

Cyclosporine Ophthalmic Preparations, Compounding
The great majority of KCS cases will respond to 0.2% cyclosporine found in Optimmune. I always supplement the treatment with artificial tears and viscous lubricants. I have my compounding pharmacist prepare cyclosporine from raw drug (which bypasses the problem of the alcohol content of Sandimmune and Neoral) in an aqueous base in concentrations of 0.2% 0.5% and 1.0%. Although the original research was done using 2%, I do not recommend 2% cyclosporin -- since lower concentrations have been proven efficatious in most circumstances ...
Geriatic Shar Pei Anxiety
Anxiety can increase in the elderly pet because of changes in its home or schedule, sensory decline, and altered owner responses to the behavior. Old pets are more rigid when it comes to change.
Oxymorphone/Hydromorphone Inductions
We use oxymorphone or hyrdromorphone IV (with diazepam IV) for high-risk inductions (toxic pyo, septic peritonitis, etc.). Blood pressures are usually superb with this protocol.
