Message Board Posting: Help Is At Your Fingertips!
You've done a VIN Search and didn't find quite what you need to know. Now what? Post your question on the VIN Message Boards and get the input of your fellow VINners, including those extra special VINners, the VIN Consultants.

To get the quickest response, be sure to post in the most specific folder. For example, one of the busiest folders on VIN is Internal Medicine. If you have a problem diabetic, try posting in the Endocrinology folder. If you have a painful Dachshund, post in the Neurology folder.

Posting in the most specific folder directs your question to the VINners most interested in your particular concern.

If you're not sure which folder is best for your issue, try Cross-Posting to more than one folder.

Need help posting your case or radiographs to the Message Boards? It's right at your fingertips!

  • The How To course meets the first 3 Wednesdays of every month. Week 2 focuses on the VIN Message Boards. If you don't have time to attend the live sessions, there is a self-study option.

  • The Message Board FAQs are a quick reference to the basic (How can I find my post to check for replies?) and more advanced (How can I get input from people in multiple folders?) features of the Message Boards.

  • Kim Schiller's rounds on How to Get the Most from Your Posts.

The next time you need help with a challenging case or just want to share a laugh, post to the VIN Message Boards and connect with your fellow VINners!

Evaluation of pentosan polysulfate sodium in the postoperative recovery from cranial cruciate injury in dogs: a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial
Pentosan polysulfate (PPS) administered after stabilization of the cruciate deficient stifle may prove to be a useful adjunctive treatment option, although further studies are necessary to substantiate this claim.

Effects of urine alkalization and activated charcoal on the pharmacokinetics of orally administered carprofen in dogs
After oral administration of carprofen in dogs, administration of AC effectively decreased maximum plasma carprofen concentration, compared with the control treatment, probably by decreasing carprofen absorption. Results suggest that AC can be used to reduce systemic carprofen absorption in dogs receiving an overdose of carprofen. Oral administration of 1 dose of sodium bicarbonate had no apparent impact on carprofen kinetics in dogs.

Dermatophytosis (ringworm)
Transmission between horses requires contact with a source of contaminated material. Spores are very resistant and can survive for long periods in stable environments. Biting flies can transmit the Microsporum spp.

Thirty pound cat continues to gain weight despite diet food
Here is an great discussion with lots of excellent user-friendly information for helping those big fat cats.

Encouraging play in the workplace: improving team attitude and staff morale
Read "Fish! A Remarkable Way To Boost Morale And Improve Results." It discusses the importance of play, having fun while you work, being "present" for your clients and staff, exceeding client expectations, and choosing your attitude. Our hospital is planning for our annual staff retreat, where the theme will be the Fish philosophy. I plan to do brain-storming with the staff, but I wanted to collect some ideas here too. How do you encourage "play" in the work place?

New cardiopulmonary resuscitation study: ventilation may not be as useful as once thought
I teach that chest compressions generate effective ventilation for 5-10 minutes. So, if you're by yourself, focus on the compressions.
