VINner Newsletter Bank

The Newsletter Article Bank is available. Thanks to VINners' contributions, we're gathering a collection of articles written by members that you can use in your clinic's newsletters. We hope that if you want to use some articles, you'll contribute some that you've written.

Consumer Reports Survey

VIN's Consumer Reports Survey is now closed. If you'd like to review the results you may do so here. We've compiled a fact page on the Consumer Reports article for you.

Hypersensitivity and Intradermal Allergy Testing in Psittacines
The tape technique is a practical and easy method to obtain flat skin specimens for optimal orientation and dermatopathologic evaluation.

Surgical Treatment of Canine Hyperadrenocorticism
Approximately 50% of pituitary tumors are estimated to continue growing throughout an animal's life, possibly leading to problems caused by compression of surrounding neurologic structures.

Canine Leishmaniasis: Therapeutic Aspects
Pentavalent antimonial compounds are the drugs of choice in treating canine leishmaniasis.

Metaldehyde Toxicoses in Dogs
In dogs, the LD of metaldehyde, a common component of snail or slug bait, is 100 mg/kg, but severe effects can occur at lower doses.

Non-Hydraulic Lift Exam Table Ideas
We have an exam room dedicated to the bigger dogs. It has a longish, low table (26") with cabinets underneath, and an attached bench. Very inexpensive, and much better looking than a lift table. It is surfaced with laminate, and we use a large Rubbermaid bathmat for traction.

Taking Saturdays Off
For a solo practitioner, taking Saturdays off, or every other Saturday off, is a life extending, life fulfilling decision. I've got enough money. I don't have enough time.

Intratumoral Cisplatin For Treatment of Equine Sarcoids, SCC, And Papillomas
Twenty horses with 30 lesions were studied to evaluate the effects of intratumoral chemotherapy with cisplatin in sesame oil on equine sarcoids (n = 19), squamous cell carcinomas (n = 7), and squamous cell papillomas (n = 4). Tumor regression was observed in all horses. Complete response was observed in 18 of the sarcoids, 5 of the squamous cell carcinomas, and 4 of the squamous cell papillomas.

CHF Cough Is Better When Dog Exercises
Major issue has always been a nasty cough. The interesting thing, to me at least, is that this dog gets better whenever it exercises and does not tire in the manner that other CHF dogs I have treated. What do you think about starting this dog on some type of medication(s) that will mildly increase the heart rate?
