Find that Perfect Form or Handout!
Thanks to the generosity of VINners, a collection of sample forms, clipart, and handouts currently being used in various veterinary practices, are gathered together in the Veterinary Forms Collection.

Many of the forms are available for download in convenient MS Word files that you may modify for use in your own practice! More client handouts can be found in the Forms and Handouts section of the VIN Library!

Cardiac power output during dobutamine stress test in horses
The results of the current study indicate that cardiac power output (CPO) measurement during pharmacologic stimulation is feasible in horses and can be performed noninvasively using Doppler echocardiography. Further studies are needed to show the usefulness of CPO measurement as a prognostic indicator of cardiac disease in horses.

Pasture-associated laminitis
Countermeasures for avoidance of pasture-associated laminitis involve mitigation of metabolic predisposition (insulin resistance and obesity) in high-risk horses and ponies, and dietary and pasture grazing management strategies that minimize exposure to the dietary conditions known to trigger laminitis in susceptible animals.

First birth of an animal from an extinct subspecies (Capra pyrenaica pyrenaica) by cloning
One recipient maintained pregnancy to term, displaying very high PAG levels. One morphologically normal bucardo female was obtained by caesarean section. The newborn died some minutes after birth due to physical defects in lungs. Nuclear DNA confirmed that the clone was genetically identical to the bucardo's donor cells.

Canine influenza vaccine: useful or not?
This is a killed virus vaccine that apparently provides non-sterilizing immunity. Information says that it "lessens the frequency and severity of lung lesions, reduces viral shedding, and reduces duration of coughing." In other words, it does not prevent infection nor does it completely prevent clinical signs of infection. Definitely NOT core. Maybe something to consider for shelter animals IF there is an outbreak in shelter.

Pricing dispensed drugs
My suggestion is look hard at what you NEED on you shelf versus what you WANT on your shelf. Write Rx's for little used products, but what you need for a week or two (or month) and avoid duplicating you inventory--do you really need Baytril and Zeniquin and Cipro?

Providing deworming without an exam
Imagine an owner who wanders in, buys wormer from you, and a month or so later the dog is diagnosed with a medical condition that now requires expensive treatment. A creative plaintiff's attorney would be quick to point out that a valid V/C/P relationship based on a medical exam should have led to detection and early treatment.

Gift from client
"One of my favorite clients presented me with a gift the other day; a statue, of sorts, of me and my cats. Interestingly, it is accurately detailed to the shoes and shoe laces. She even took the time to put my favorite cat, Tippy, on my shoulder where he is frequently perched."
