The use of vasopressin for treating vasodilatory shock and cardiopulmonary arrest
Vasopressin (0.2–0.8 U/kg, IV once) administration during cardiopulmonary resuscitation in small animal veterinary patients with pulseless electrical activity or ventricular asystole may be beneficial for myocardial and cerebral blood flow.

Equine proliferative enteropathy: An emerging disease of foals
L. intracellularis, the aetiological agent of equine proliferative enteropathy (EPE), has emerged as an important pathogen in foals over the last decade. While some aspects of the disease in horses are relatively well characterised, further studies need to be conducted on the epidemiology of the condition, the development of new ante mortem diagnostic strategies, and the prevention of the disease (including the evaluation of vaccination protocols).

Effects of vessels and swimmers on behavior of Hawaiian spinner dolphins (Stenella longirostris) in Kealake'akua, Honaunau, and Kauhako bays, Hawai'i
Spinner dolphins use Hawaiian bays as havens in which to rest during the day, so disturbance by vessels and swimmers may affect their activity budgets and fitness. Concerns regarding dolphin disturbance have caused NOAA Fisheries to propose new regulations for interaction with Hawaiian spinner dolphins.

Canine influenza vaccine: useful or not?
This is a killed virus vaccine that apparently provides non-sterilizing immunity. Information says that it "lessens the frequency and severity of lung lesions, reduces viral shedding, and reduces duration of coughing." In other words, it does not prevent infection nor does it completely prevent clinical signs of infection. Definitely NOT core. Maybe something to consider for shelter animals IF there is an outbreak in shelter.

Radio-opaque mass in abdomen
He is an inside/outside cat so the owners are not aware of any vomiting or diarrhea. When they place food in front of him he seems interested but does not eat more than a few bites.
We have had him hospitalized on fluids for the past 48 hours and he is only able to pass small drops of diarrhea. There is a firm mass palpated in the caudal abdomen that cannot be reached on rectal palpation. It appears to be in the colon since feces seems to be accumulating cranial to it.

Kitten with bilateral radial hemimelia and gaps in both humeri
This kitten is in trouble. The radial hemimelia is obvious. This usually requires carpal arthrodesis. With this being a kitten, this may not be as large an issue, but the humeral abnormalities are really odd. I think that it is an anomaly and not due to trauma. I think that it will take a heroic effort surgically to leave this animal with a limb that could be used.

Does a waiver protect me if a client declines my advice?
Am I legally protected if I have the client sign a waiver declining labwork and I prescribe NSAIDs or even heartworm preventative? How about a client who wants a low-cost spay/neuter and does not want to pay for a thorough physical exam?

Funny Bones
Clinic cat gobbles up tumor
"Since Hurricane Katrina my house cats live in the hospital. There are a bunch of them, a whole bunch of them. The other day we were removing a skin mass from a dog. The sample fell off the drape during the procedure. One of the many clinic cats darted into surgery and ate it. He vomited about an hour later."
