A study of the effect of hemorrhage on the cardiorespiratory actions of halothane, isoflurane and sevoflurane in the dog
Although the hemodynamic responses of isoflurane (ISO) and sevoflurane (SEVO) are similar in normovolaemic dogs, ISO results in better maintenance of circulatory function during the early period following a massive blood loss. Inhaled anesthetics should be used judiciously in animals presented with blood loss. However, if an inhalational agent is to be used under these circumstances, ISO may provide better hemodynamic stability than SEVO or halothane (HAL).
The effect of hemolysis on plasma antithrombin activity as determined by a chromogenic method
The results demonstrated that individual histological criteria, together with multiple presentation, may be of value in predicting the outcome of mast cell tumours. Among these, invasiveness and the number of mitotic figures showed high prognostic significance.
Dose-related thermal antinociceptive effects of intravenous hydromorphone in cats
Hydromorphone at doses less than 0.1 mg/kg has a modest antinociceptive effect and a short duration of action. At a dose of 0.1 mg/kg IV, onset of analgesia is rapid with a clinically useful duration of effect, but is associated with a rise in skin temperature.
The effect of inotropic and/or vasopressor support on postoperative survival following equine colic surgery
Our study supports previous work, suggesting that pre-existing cardiovascular status is an important prognostic determinant in equine colic cases. It provides no evidence that dobutamine or phenylephrine administration is associated with survival.

New to personnel management: what do I really need to know?
This reminds me of a saying I've heard horse trainer Ray Hunt use many times, "Make the right thing easy, and the wrong thing difficult." I've used that approach with employees with great success. Also, catch people doing things right and compliment them, rather than just the normal criticism for doing something wrong. Boosting morale is the quickest way to increasing a practice's efficiency.
Aggressive treatment pulls a cat through pancreatitis; leg amputated after bandage problems
On the day to go home, I had my technicians remove his IV catheter, which they had supposedly been checking regularly ... this is what his leg looks like after 2 weeks of bandaging and honey treatments.
Presurgical exams: charge separately vs build cost Into procedure
We are generally well respected and trusted by our clients; we tend to underestimate or undervalue the services we provide to our 'average' client base, and we also tend to discount or give away freebies (subconsciously) as a way to be seen as 'nicer', or, to counter less than 100% client acceptance / compliance with our recommendations. Charge, invoice and collect for services you provide; don’t discount or waive fees based on your internal feelings – especially if you haven’t had complaints from clients!
Enterococcus antibiotic resistant species: no treatment recommended at this time
But regarding the big picture of your dog, remember that picking ABs is always the minor thing. If you have a recurrent urinary tract infection patient, it's probably coming back. So, the cases are about relapse versus reinfection and from there can we get to a reason.
