What's the Dose?
When searching VIN for information on drugs, one useful trick is to click the Drug Resources tab to limit your search to information from Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, the NACA Formulary, COMPAS MSDS Sheets, the CVP Drug Label Database, the Pet Pharmacy (client handouts) and other valuable drug resources. Find even more helpful information on the Drug Resources page in the Library. NEWS THAT'S FIT TO CLICK and discuss News reported for YOU... A cross-sectional study of mental health and well-being and their associations in the UK veterinary profession
Veterinary surgeons are at elevated risk of suicide, with a proportional mortality ratio around four times that of the general population and approximately twice that of other healthcare professions.
A Bayesian approach to estimate the accuracy of "in-house" ELISA assay to measure rabies antibodies from compulsory vaccinated dogs and cattle
"In-house" lpcELISA revealed 16 negative results out of 261 serum samples, whereas all scELISA results were positive. This is significant, especially when unprotected animals may be involved in virus dissemination among homeless dogs or adult cattle.
Propolis effect on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Propolis is a resinous material collected by bees from buds and plant exudates, which is mixed with products of their salivary glands and wax. The use of propolis dates back to ancient times, and it has been utilized as a medicine in several parts of the world, both for internal or external use. Nowadays, propolis has attracted researchers' interest due to its several therapeutic activities, such as immunomodulatory, antitumor, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, among others.

Vaccination protocols in clinics vary widely
I do relief work and have worked for no less than 20 hospitals in the past year. Given the large volume of interest and the release of AAHA/AAFP position statements, I was expecting to find most hospitals modifying their vaccination protocols to be less frequent on core vaccinations. In practice, however, I've found about 10% follow the AAHA or AAFP recommendations. I've seen every possible protocol under the sun.
Are ice cubes safe to chew?
Many years ago, Bob Wiggs and Heidi Lobprise did a survey at Bob's practice in Dallas. The number 1 cause of dental fractures according to this survey was dried cow hooves. Number 2 was ice cubes! So, ice cubes can definitely break teeth - avoid them.
Associate veterinarian offering friend unauthorized discounts: should there be repercussions?
I found out she was bringing dogs from a good friends of hers who also has a sled dog team and charging at discounted rate reserved for employees.
Emergency calls: do I have to provide care to a former client I fired?
For me, the bottom line would be whether you feel comfortable explaining your refusal (to yourself, your colleagues, the state board, or a judge) to see the patient if there is a bad outcome because you made the client drive farther than was absolutely necessary to seek emergency care.

Get More From VIN Search Tip: Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search: - Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search. - General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful. For more help and tips on searching, see Steps To A More Effective Search. Need Help? Having trouble logging in to VIN? Questions about your membership? Can't find that reference you need for a tough case? Help is a click, email or phone call away! (Hint: you can find this page anytime by clicking HELP on the main VIN Navigation Bar.)
