Managing Osteoarthritic Patients
Practical Considerations for Managing Osteoarthritic Patients was sponsored by an educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim and Merial and published as a supplement to Advanstar Veterinary Healthcare Communications in 2003. Review by VIN staff demonstrates the content to be "industry neutral" and, as such, it is our pleasure to add this resource to the VIN Database.

Stedman's has a long tradition of providing a comprehensive, current, and accurate medical lexicon to medical and health professionals. Controlling Psittacosis and Avian Chlamydiosis The compendium, Measures To Control Chlamydophila psittaci Infection Among Humans (Psittacosis) and Pet Birds (Avian Chlamydiosis), provides information about psittacosis and avian chlamydiosis to public health officials, physicians, veterinarians, the pet bird industry, and others concerned with controlling these diseases and protecting public health. The recommendations in this compendium provide standardized procedures for controlling avian chlamydiosis in birds, a vital step to protecting human health.

Correlation between fine-needle aspiration cytology and histopathology in the evaluation of cutaneous and subcutaneous masses from dogs and cats
Overall, the cytologic diagnosis was in agreement with the histopathologic diagnosis in 90.9% (221/243) of cases. For diagnosing neoplasia, cytology had a sensitivity of 89.3%, a specificity of 97.9%, a positive predictive value of 99.4%, and a negative predictive value of 68.7%. [Full text article]
Circadian variations of serum thyroxine, free thyroxine and 3,5,3'triiodothyronine concentrations in healthy dogs
Based on these results, it was considered that measurement of serum tT4 and fT4 concentrations from 11 : 00 to 14 : 00 might more easily diagnose the canine hypothyroidism in practice.
Laryngeal paralysis-polyneuropathy complex in young related Pyrenean mountain dogs
Six young related Pyrenean mountain dogs with laryngeal paralysis-polyneuropathy complex (LP-PNC) were presented with laryngeal paralysis and concurrent megaoesophagus. Electrodiagnostic testing was performed in 3 dogs. Clinical, electrophysiological and histopathological findings were supportive of a diagnosis of degenerative, sensorimotor LP-PNC, similar to that reported in young dalmatians and rottweilers.
Clinical observations surrounding an increased incidence of postanesthetic myopathy in halothane-anesthetized horses
Maintaining MAP >70 mmHg with high-volume fluid therapy and dobutamine may help to reduce the severity of myopathy.

Possible Overcorrection Of Entropion; Diagrams Of Rhomboid Lateral Canthoplasty Technique
I am assuming that you were correcting a breed with a very long palpebral fissure (a Rottweiler, a bull dog, a Labrador). I have learned that these dogs usually need, in addition to a Hotz-Celsus, a shorting of the lids at the lateral canthus to help prevent over exposure of the conjunctiva and/or to tighten up the eyelid margin (to prevent roll in) when the lids are corrected. Dr. Munger has taught me the rhomboid lateral canthoplasty technique. Dr. Munger designed this surgery and I love it for all these macroblepharon breeds.
Panniculitis Lesion On A Dog's Thigh
Localized idiopathic panniculitis is unusual, but not unheard of. It sometimes does present as deep abscesses.
Photos Of Flaps Used For Deciduous Canine Tooth Extractions In A Puppy
I do not do any bone removal. In a young pup like this, the bone is soft and pliable, and the periodontal ligament is wide and soft, so I find I can elevate on three sides of these teeth (mesial, distal, buccal) then rotate gently along the long axis and out they come. I really cannot remember having a case that required anything more invasive that this very conservative flap and delicate elevation.
Pemphigus Can Be Caused By Pregnancy
Talked with a dermatologist at UC-Davis who had just read a report from France on a donkey, Three of the five times she was pregnant, the donkey developed pemphigus foliaceus -- which resolved post-partum. Sure wish I had biopsied this horse last year!
