What Is That Doggy In The Window: Property, Person Or Something In-Between?
There is concern that our clients aren't "owners" anymore; they're becoming "guardians". Join Mary Margaret McEachern, JD, this Sunday and find out if you need to increase your malpractice insurance anytime soon or if there's nothing to worry about.

Use the Rounds link in the Main Navigation bar to join the discussion. To find out what other interesting rounds topics are coming soon, see This Week's Rounds Schedule.

Companion animals as sentinels for public health
Animal sentinel surveillance is a key component of public health risk assessment. While many species serve as animal sentinels, companion animals have an especially valuable role as sentinels because of their unique place in people's lives, with exposure to similar household and recreational risk factors as those for the people who own them.

I got an invitation from one of the consultants to view some pictures. While I have respect for this consultant, I have never met nor even chatted with her so I doubt the invitation was from her. Hopefully she won't be offended that I deleted the email.

CT vs. MRI
With improving technology, some of the differences that used to be touted (eg, "CT better for bone and lungs" and "MRI better for soft tissue") have fallen by the wayside. With modern multislice helical CT and good software packages, it is possible to get soft tissue definition that rivals MRI - at much lower cost and with shorter scan times.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy cat with enlarged left atrium: are any medications beneficial priro to congestive heart failure?
I've had a colony of cats with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) for the past 16 years and I decided early on not to treat any of them with anything unless they were in heart failure. I've been impressed at how long cats can go with no intervention.

Pets with allergies: glucocorticoid preferences for the relief of pruritis
My current issue is the lack of training in *appropriate* use of steroids in veterinary school. Recent graduates treat them like they are Adriamycin.
