Many VINners and VIN Consultants are Attending ACVIM This Week
As a result, responses to messages posted to the Boards may be delayed. Thank you for your patience while your favorite VINners and VIN consultants expand their knowledge at the ACVIM Forum. We promise to share what we learn at Forum when we return. If you are attending ACVIM, please be sure to stop by and visit us! Check your email or feed your VIN addiction at one of the two Cyber-Cafes! We look forward to seeing you there!
Welcome to Intravet, the newest folder participant in the Vet Industry message board!
We're excited by the knowledge and support that Intravet will bring to the VIN community. Please take a moment to welcome our newest addition to the Vet Industry message board. Remember to post your questions about the company's products. (While you're in the industry folders, check out all of the other companies that are willing and able to answer your product questions!) A Note from Paul about Industry on VIN: As a result of the recent rapid rise in the number of industry folders on VIN, a few have written to ask if VIN has changed its position regarding independence from industry. Rest assured that nothing has changed. VIN remains committed to the VIN Policies on Commercialism. We all benefit from increased communication and access between colleagues in practice, academia, and industry. Facilitating this communication is our goal. We are pleased that more of our colleagues in industry are recognizing this and joining the discussion.

Topical fusidic acid/betamethasone-containing gel compared to systemic therapy in the treatment of canine acute moist dermatitis
The study demonstrates no difference in the clinical improvement achieved in canine acute moist dermatitis following topical or systemic therapy and that both treatment regimes represent effective treatment options for the condition.
Immunisation with a combination of two complementary feline calicivirus strains induces a broad cross-protection against heterologous challenges
These results indicated that vaccines combining antigens from different FCV strains may induce a broader heterologous protection.
Survey on giardiosis in shelter dog populations
Faecal samples from 183 dogs living in three different shelters in the Rome metropolitan area were randomly collected and examined for the prevalence of giardiosis. Giardia-positive dogs were more likely to be younger than 5-year-old, living together, and fed commercial wet food, both alone and combined with dry food. Correlation between Giardia infection and type of food has not been previously reported in dogs.
Assessment Of the Effect of Gastrointestinal Nematode Infestation On Weight Gain In Grazing Beef Cattle
This prospective study used 799 Bos tarus yearlings enrolled in 11 trials conducted at 9 sites throughout a 3 year period to assess the effect of subclinical, naturally acquired gastrointestinal nematode infestation on weight gain in yearling cattle kept on pasture. Cattle treated with ivermectin had a greater average daily weight gain; untreated cattle had a decreased average daily gain equivalent to 6.6 kg (14.5 lb) less gain in a 143-day grazing season.

How Did You Start Your Remodeling Journey?
What I was wondering was when you involve all those individuals. Did you start doodling and have a rough "floorplan" before you met with an architect? Or is it better to work with an architect from the get-go?
Advice For Students Going Into Clinic Rotation
Loosen up, have fun, wear comfortable shoes, don't let anyone let you kill anything, don't get killed yourself, buy people doughnuts, and remember to learn, study for boards, eat, and go to the bathroom!
How To Fire A Client
I keep hoping for the day when we're all given free rein to say what we really want to people like this: "There are 22 other practices within a 5 mile radius of our hospital. We can send your records to any one of them. However, with your attitude, you will probably need to expand your search. Have a nice day."
Respiratory Distress, Death In Cat After DepoMedrol: Probable Acute CHF; Differentiating Asthmatic Cats From CHF Cats
Radiographic interpretation of pulmonary changes in cats without murmurs, or with lung sounds so loud the heart isn't heard, is and always will be difficult. Treating a suspected asthmatic with steroids can make heart disease worse (as the posts have described). Cardiomegaly will not always be there unless the atria are enlarged. Take a close look at the pulmonary vasculature (if you can see it). Enlarged PA only implies primary lung disease. Enlargement of both implies cardiac. I have described increases in the cranial and caudal pulmonary artery and vein on both sides as the "spider sign": a total of eight prominent pulmonary vessels. Examining the pulmonary vasculature has helped me recognize heart vs. lung much easier.
