Development of Resistant Bacteria Isolated from Dogs with Otitis Externa or Urinary Tract Infections after Exposure to Enrofloxacin In Vitro
Results indicated that Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus spp isolates exposed to enrofloxacin developed resistance rapidly, whereas Klebsiella, Proteus, and Streptococcus spp were less likely to develop resistance. Despite the presence of enrofloxacin pressure, no resistant bacteria developed in the Escherichia coli and staphylococcal isolates. In many isolates, susceptibility patterns changed from susceptible to intermediate.
A Retrospective Study Regarding the Treatment of Lupoid Onychodystrophy in 30 Dogs and Literature Review
If neither antibiotic therapy nor diet lead to remission, the authors recommend initial trial therapy with tetracycline and niacinamide q 8 hours for a period of 8 weeks. With good or excellent response, treatment may be tapered to q 12 hours or switched to doxycycline and niacinamide q 24 hours.
Feline Esophagitis Secondary to Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Clinical Signs and Radiographic, Endoscopic, and Histopathological Findings
These cases illustrate the clinical syndrome of chronic esophagitis believed to be secondary to GER in cats. It is of interest to note that one of the cases exhibited squamous dysplasia, which is considered a precancerous condition in humans; additional follow-up is required to determine if this finding has similar prognostic value.
Hypothyroidism and Myocardial Failure in Two Great Danes
The association between hypothyroidism and canine DCM has been the subject of some controversy. The observations in these two cases suggest that hypothyroidism can lead to systolic failure and be partially or fully reversible following thyroid hormone supplementation.

Bleeding Post Neuter: Possible vWD In Irish Wolfhound?
There are a number of genetic testing laboratories out there offering canine vWD DNA testing. Unfortunately, the DNA test is breed specific and no one, that I know of, is testing for vWD in Wolfhounds.
Giardia Tests
We have a feline giardia research project going right now. We're looking at giardia genotypes to see if there is something weird about our local giardia variant that seems to make our cats vomit. Giardia researchers are moving away from a straight, non-stained, zinc sulfate technique because, even in the hands of 'all I live and breathe is Giardia research' experts, the technique has a crappy sensitivity. Once you move to a staining technique like the IFA, you realise how much giardia there REALLY is out there.
Learning Leadership
Being firm does NOT mean being disagreeable. Simply asking nicely when something needs to be done reinforces who is making the decisions. Saying "thank you" when something is done well does the same. Praise is at least as effective as correction.
Primary Lung Tumor In Cat
Other than mycotic disease, most of the time a solitary mass needs to come out surgically.
