Does acepromazine cause seizures in epileptic dogs?
Most of us were taught this at some point, and most avoid using acepromazine in these patients. But is it really true? The 1200 or so VIN members who gave us their opinions in this survey provided an interesting view of this question. Some things remain a mystery...that we hope to solve with some small follow-up surveys (so stay tuned). VIN is very excited to be a profession leader in examining the important clinical questions by asking you, the VIN members who have the experience. Thank you!

Median effective dose of isoflurane, sevoflurane, and desflurane in green iguanas
In unmedicated iguanas, anesthesia was induced and maintained with each of the 3 volatile drugs administered on separate days according to a Latin square design. During each period of anesthesia, MAC was determined in triplicate. The MAC for all inhaled agents was, on average, 22% greater for the first measurement than for the third measurement. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance-Over time, MACs decreased for all 3 agents.
Use of Oil Red O stain in the cytologic diagnosis of canine liposarcoma
Our results suggest that Oil Red O staining may be an easy, inexpensive, and useful diagnostic tool for the differentiation of liposarcoma from other mesenchymal neoplasms.
Effects of phenylbutazone alone or in combination with flunixin meglumine on blood protein concentrations in horses
Comparisons revealed no significant difference between control horses and horses treated with PBZ alone. There was a significant difference between control and treated horses when administered a combination of PBZ and flunixin meglumine. Analysis of results of the study indicates the need for caution when administering a combination NSAID treatment to horses because the detrimental effects may outweigh any potential benefits.
Physiological responses of Bos taurus and Bos indicus cattle to prolonged, continuous heat and humidity
Our results suggest that Bos taurus cattle experience significant physiological changes during exposure to prolonged and continuous high heat and humidity, with alterations persisting for some days after the heat-stress conditions subside. Bos indicus experience similar but less pronounced physiological changes.

OK, So I Think I'm Ready to Start Using Constant Rate Infusions, But I Have a Few More Questions
More pumps is a good way to go, but don't hesitate to use combinations of drugs in the bag. I use a lot of 250ml and 500 ml bags. The drug cost are low, so it is no big deal to discard the leftovers -- if there are any. If you need to add fluid for support, just use the old technique of counting drops. It does work.
Student Needs Advice: How Did You Specialize In Exotics?
I think it is worthwhile getting a good grounding in veterinary medicine before pursuing exotic medicine exclusively.
