Enjoy, Use, and Contribute to the VIN Image Collection
This is the VIN Community at its best! Dr. Cathy Wilkie started this collection with a single post entitled "A Collection of Photographs For Use" in the From The Trenches folder. We all owe Cathy a big thank you for beginning this thread. If you have an image to share with the VIN community, please add it to that thread. VIN Tip Always use "white space" in your posts. Large blocks of text are difficult to read. Putting blank lines ("white space") between paragraphs makes your comments easier to read. Putting blank lines between quotes and replies is also another way of making your posts more readable.

Check out the results of the Obstructive Dental Treats Survey!
Nearly 2000 VIN members participated in this survey. The preliminary survey results can now be viewed! If you have any comments you wish to make regarding the survey results, you are welcome to contribute to this special discussion on the Message Boards. Thank you very much for helping VIN examine this important issue so quickly and so comprehensively.

Stability of selected hematology variables in canine blood kept at room temperature in EDTA for 24 and 48 hours
Whole blood specimens stored for up to 2 days at room temperature are suitable for cell counts and Hgb measurement. However, potential variations have to be known to avoid misinterpretations, especially near the decision limits.
The phenol red thread tear test in large Psittaciformes
Results suggest that the phenol red thread tear test is a practical method for measuring tear production in large Psittaciformes, although adaptations to the established diagnostic method are necessary to overcome some anatomical differences present in birds.
Cardiopulmonary effects of sufentanil long acting on sevoflurane anaesthesia in dogs
Pre-anaesthetic medication with sufentanil long acting (SLA) moderately aggravated the cardiopulmonary effects of sevoflurane. In spite of a moderate depressant effect on cardiorespiratory parameters, SLA may be of use as pre-anaesthetic medication before sevoflurane anaesthesia in dogs. Intermittent positive pressure ventilation may occasionally be necessary.
Positive reinforcement training affects hematologic and serum chemistry values in captive chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)
Positive reinforcement training (PRT) techniques have received considerable attention for their stress reduction potential in the behavioral management of captive nonhuman primates. This is one of the first data sets to objectively demonstrate that PRT for voluntary presentation of IM injections of anesthetic can significantly affect some of the physiological measures correlated with stress responses to chemical restraint in captive chimpanzees.

Polishing: Yes Or No? Paste Or Pumice Flour? Medium Or Fine Grit?
Scaling etches the enamel, making it more plaque retentive. Scaling also misses a lot of plaque. Polishing smoothes the enamel and removes the plaque left behind. Polishing needs to be a part of every oral hygiene procedure.
Syncope And Pulmonary Hypertension In A Jack Russell
If the dog does have pulmonary hypertension, the clean rads would mean it's either primary (idiopathic disease of the pulmonary vasculature) or pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). With PTE, the chest rads are commonly normal (with regard to lungs). If this is suspected, the next thing to do is to try to figure out why the dog is hypercoagulable -- Cushing's, protein losing glomerular disease, neoplasia, etc.
Are Purina Gentle Snackers Treats Ok For Food Trial?
Are these "truly hypoallergenic treats" the way the ads say?
