Do *you* have the "right stuff" to be a student's mentor?
Vet students want to know that what they are studying will actually be useful in the real world. To give veterinary students the opportunity to find out, VIN has the Adopt-A-Vet/Student program. This program matches vet students with veterinarians who have similar practice interests. Help your future colleagues learn about practice life, sign up today! (Click the MyVIN button on VIN's main nav bar, then click Colleagues. Enjoy!)

New MyVIN Feature: Add a Picture to Your Profile!
Lend your MyVIN profile a personal touch and post your picture. As with most MyVIN profile features, you can make it visible to all VINners or just your MyVIN Colleagues. Go to MyVIN and choose Profile > Picture.

Don't stop with just the picture! Have there been changes in your life? Do you need to update your email address? Have you recently moved, and need to update your mailing address and phone number? Do you want to renew your VIN membership? Use MyVIN!

New Grads - please take a moment to update your contact information using MyVIN. Remember, Waltham USA Sponsors Student Access to VIN. Please take a moment to send a big "Thank You!" to Waltham (ThankYouWaltham@VIN.com) for their generous support of the VIN Student Member program.

Newly-Added To VIN:

New in VeterinaryPartner.com:

Antinociceptive Effects of Hydromorphone, Butorphanol, or the Combination in Cats
The present study suggests that the combination of butorphanol and a pure OP3 (mu) receptor agonist clinically does not produce increased analgesia and indeed may result in decreased analgesia.

Emergence of zoonotic canine leishmaniasis in the United States: isolation and immunohistochemical detection of Leishmania infantum from foxhounds from Virginia.
Previously considered an exotic disease, canine leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum has recently been detected within the foxhound population in the United States and parts of Canada. Leishmania infantum is the etiologic agent of visceral leishmaniasis in many areas of the world, and dogs are considered a major reservoir host for human Leishmania infections.

Clinicopathological Abnormalities and Treatment Response in 24 Dogs Seroreactive to Bartonella vinsonii (berkhoffii) Antigens.
Diagnoses included immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, neutrophilic or granulomatous meningoencephalitis, neutrophilic polyarthritis, cutaneous vasculitis, and uveitis. Repeated B. vinsonii (berkhoffii) antibody titers became negative after treatment.

Shortening of interestrous intervals with cabergoline in bitches: a clinical trial
A significant correlation was found between the stage of anestrus in which the treatments began and the duration of the treatments required to induce estrus.

Digital Sensor - Dedicated Tube? Digital vs Film Rads
I was hoping that, by going digital, I could avoid buying all the film "doohickeys" and spending another grand. Now I am pondering whether I should just spend less money and get a film system and leave the digital imaging for another couple of years.

Updating My Anesthetic Protocols for Cats; Domitor In Cats
Your concerns about DKT are valid. Keep in mind that domitor and xylazine are cousins. Domitor is an improvement, not a panacea. You have to learn to use it, just as you had to learn to use xylazine. Start slow and expand. I use DKT a lot but not in every case, and not even in every young healthy cat.

Dental Must-Haves for Start-Up Practice
You need to view the cost of an item with regard to potential to generate revenue. IMHO, there is no piece of equipment that has the potential for a greater return on investment than a dental radiograph machine.
