Starting Out or Keeping Up: The VIN Student Center Has the Resources You Need!
The VIN Student Center can help you find and prepare for your first (or your 50th) job. Use the References and Dictionaries to brush up on those medical terms and pronunciations you've forgotten since your first years as a student. Take advantage of resources like www.vetquest.com (search for job postings or place an ad of your own!) and the AVMA Veterinary Career Center (new job postings every day!) and articles on finding Intern/Resident positions. Thanks to the continuous efforts of the VIN community, the Student Center has grown into a resource to serve all VINners. Meet and network with fellow students, find information resources gathered and organized specifically for students (and students at heart), and access the full resources of VIN, including VIN CE courses. Use the new Tools to get help, search the VIN Library (CTRL-S) or open the VINdex menu (CTRL-E). E-mail to Feedback@vin.com if you'd like to contribute to the Student Center or just share your thoughts about the new features. Have You Explored Associate Yet?
Associate can help you with your feline, canine, public health and foreign animal disease/bioterrorism questions. - The Book sections of Associate (canine and feline) have many new and updated disease chapters that serve as a great "starting point" for your clinical questions.
- The public health and foreign animal disease sections are invaluable up-to-date resources to help you with questions regarding zoonoses, bioterrorism, and foreign animal diseases.
- The Tool section allows you to work through cases, clinical sign by clinical sign, building a list of diseases to consider. (It won't build a true "differential diagnosis" but it is a great reminder of conditions you might have forgotten to consider in those "tougher" cases.)
VIN Rounds: Take 'em With You!

Transmission of coccidioidomycosis to a human via a cat bite
We report an unusual case of coccidioidomycosis in the arm of a veterinary assistant without pulmonary symptoms. The patient had been bitten on the hand by a cat which was later diagnosed with disseminated disease. The patient responded to fluconazole therapy and remained asymptomatic at 2 months after cessation of therapy.
Chromoblastomycosis: an overview of clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment
There are three treatment modalities (physical treatment, chemotherapy, and combination therapy), but their success is related to the causative agent, the clinical form, and severity of the chromoblastomycosis lesions.
Pavlovian conditioning in the veterinary clinic
Clinical presentations of cutaneous lesions vary widely, including erythematous papules, verrucous plaques, and deep subcutaneous abscesses. The clinical distribution and course of disease are also variable, depending on the age and immune competency of the patient.

Client is refusing to euthanize
But when I discussed it was time to consider euthanasia - she assured me she was always on the lookout for her dogs' quality of life, she would NEVER let them suffer and the minute she felt Chucky was suffering she would schedule the euthanasia.
Prehabilitate a cruciate dog?
The issue with swimming is that it promotes excessive flexion, which might favor meniscal tearing (there is a study showing that swimming dogs flex their stifles more than dogs normally do on land).
Next step for young cat that is heartworm antigen negative and antibody positive; should we be screening cats for heartworm disease?
So the question then becomes, what is the value in knowing a cat has heartworm, if it's subclinical?
Clients with multiple pets: do they deserve larger discount or free services?
Vaccinating a dozen cats at a greatly reduced rate can be much more profitable than not vaccinating them at all.

Funny Bones: Grammar snobs, unite! "Boss just bought a beautiful new sign for the clinic with a new updated logo. Along with the new signs went up a sign that says "Veterinarian Parking" and an arrow to our only parking lot. I am not good enough with grammar to be a snob, but everytime we drive by it, my SO asks where the clients are supposed to park."
