'Outside of a Dog, a Book is a Man's Best Friend...
...inside of a dog it's too dark to read.' ~
Groucho Marx

Make a Difference...Participate in Clinical Trials and Research Studies
Between the demands of practice and personal life, your precious free time (if you have any) is probably limited. Did you know you can contribute to veterinary research without leaving your home or office?

Simply visit the Clinical Trials & Research Projects page to find a study recruiting patients. Be a part of the solution. Help lead the way in answering questions that matter.

If you have a patient who fits the criteria for one or both of these projects, click the link to see how to enroll. Check the clinical trials page to see if one of the other ongoing trials might make new or novel therapies available for your patients.

If you would like to add your clinical trial or research project, please complete this survey or contact mrishniw@vin.com.

Weekend CE Has Gone to the Dogs!
If you're looking for some good CE on the West Coast but can't take a lot of time away from your practice, consider attending the 11th Annual Canine Medicine Symposium presented by the UCD Canine Medicine Club on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11. The symposium offers 12.5 hours of CE credit on a wide range of topics.

Review the proceedings from the 2007 Canine Medicine Symposium.

Ossification of the infraspinatus tendon bursa in 13 dogs
Of five shoulders treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), one resolved, two improved, and two were managed surgically. Can a solo practice gross one million?
I was told by my management consultant that no solo practitioner does $2M. My response was "I love a challenge." My hospital administrator told him "Bite me!" Her words exactly. I told you we have fun!

Is this Trichophyton rubrum?
There was moderate scabbing across the bridge of the nose extending to above the left eye as moderate inflammation/ulceration. The ulcerated area was roughened with a swab and slides were made. Slides were mainly blood with an increased number of neutrophils.

Importance of removing all roots for cats with feline oral resorptive lesions (FORL)
I'd rather err on the side of removing it in our patients than leave something that could one day cause excruciating pain. Until dogs and cats learn how to dial 911, I'll stick with removing all roots.
