Welcome to VetCentric, the newest folder participant in the Vet Industry message board!
Welcome to VetCentric, the newest folder participant in the Vet Industry message board! We're excited by the opportunities to share knowledge and support that VetCentric, will bring to the VIN community. Please take a moment to welcome our newest addition to the Vet Industry message board. Remember to post your questions about the company's products. (While you're in the industry folders, check out all of the other companies that are willing and able to answer your product questions!) A Note From Paul About Industry on VIN: As a result of the recent rapid rise in the number of industry folders on VIN, a few have written to ask if VIN has changed its position regarding independence from industry. Rest assured that nothing has changed. VIN remains committed to the VIN Policies on Commercialism. We all benefit from increased communication and access between colleagues in practice, academia, and industry. Facilitating this communication is our goal. We are pleased that more of our colleagues in industry are recognizing this and joining the discussion.

Superiority of the gastroduodenal safety profile of licofelone over rofecoxib, a COX-2 selective inhibitor, in dogs

Evaluation of the anti-endotoxic effects of polymyxin-E (colistin) in dogs with naturally occurred endotoxic shock
The anti-endotoxic effects of polymyxin –E (Colistin) were studied in 30 dogs with endotoxemia. Colistin administered along with ampicillin resulted in improved hydration, capillary refill time and peripheral pulses; serum TNF-alpha concentrations were statistically decreased in the test group. The authors conclude that polymyxin-E (colistin) has anti-endotoxic effects.

Information On Vetsulin And Opinions On First Choice Insulins In Cats; Ultralente Efficacy? IM Or SC Injections?
Vetsulin (Intervet) was released at NAVC. It is a very good insulin for cats, although the Idexx PZI would be even more similar to feline insulin than Vetsulin. We have used it extensively in cats for over 5 years in Canada under the name Caninsulin. It is my first choice in my diabetic patients.
Cyclosporine For AIHA - Taper or Stop Abruptly? Treatment of AIHA; Cost of Cyclosporine and Potential Adverse Effect of Lymphoma
You know what I worry about with long-term cyclosporine is the induction of lymphoma later in their life. Here's a blurb from Clare Gregory's chapter in CVT 13 on Immunosuppressive agents: 'As in people, cyclosporine can promote the development of neoplasia, particularly lymphomas, in cats and dogs. The administration of high levels (1-2 mg/kg over 24 hours) of prednisolone with cyclosporine increases the likelihood of tumor formation.' I wonder whether this is something we'll see down the line with the advent of the use of Atopica for lots of animals with skin disease. Yes, it's at a much lower dose than is used for IMHA, but I still wonder. Wonder if the company has looked at this....
