Feline heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infection: A statistical elaboration of the duration of the infection and life expectancy in asymptomatic cats
Of 43 asymptomatic cats included into the follow-up study with owners' consent, 34 (79%) self-cured and nine (21%) died. The probability for death or sudden death increased significantly with age at diagnosis, but no difference was detected by gender, survival time after diagnosis, or the presence or absence of symptoms.
Successful management of saltwater submersion injury in a dog using mechanical ventilation
The patient was ventilated for 70 hours and was discharged 4 days later. Complications included pneumonia. Follow up thoracic radiographs 10 days after discharge were within normal limits, and the owners report a full recovery at 1 year.

Puppies with odd hair color
The location of the brindle color depends on another set of genes, the A series. The aˆt gene in that series produces a black or chocolate dog with tan points, such as seen in Dobermans, Rottweilers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Collies and some of my Shelties. Labradors are usually (maybe always) aˆtaˆt, so that the brindle color only shows in the tan points.
Biopsies: endoscopic vs. exploratory laparotomy
That JAVMA article from AMC was interesting but had some major flaws (I hate to say since I did my residency there). They included cats with focal intestinal masses - which obviously would be surgical candidates rather than endoscopic candidates.
Book is rallying resistance to the anti-vaccine crusade
As Dr. Offit's book details, numerous studies of thimerosal, measles virus, and other alleged autism triggers in vaccines have been conducted, and hundreds of children with diagnoses of autism have undergone what he considers sham treatments and been 'cured'. Both sides insist that the medical evidence backs them.

Get More From VIN Search Tip: Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search: - Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search. - General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful. For more help and tips on searching, see Steps To A More Effective Search.
