Enjoy, Use, and Contribute to the VIN Image Collection
This is the VIN Community at its best! Dr. Cathy Wilkie started this collection with a single post entitled "A Collection of Photographs For Use" in the From The Trenches folder. We all owe Cathy a big thank you for beginning this thread. If you have an image to share with the VIN community, please add it to that thread. Veterinary Clinical Pathology - Online - Full Text! Thanks to the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ASVCP) and the VIN Foundation, VINners have free access to full text journal articles from 30 years of Veterinary Clinical Pathology. Canine meibometry: Establishing baseline values for meibomian gland secretions in dogs
Meibometry was conducted in 42 healthy dogs, 16 of which were Miniature Schnauzers. The mean meibomium level in 84 eyes of the 42 dogs was 179±60 Meibometer units. Age, gender, and side did not affect the results. However, meibomium levels were significantly lower in the Miniature Schnauzers, a breed that is susceptible to keratoconjunctivitis sicca, compared to other breeds. This report demonstrates that meibometry is a simple and minimally invasive technique that may be readily used in conscious dogs to quantify meibomian gland secretions and explicate tear film dynamics in normal and dry canine eyes.
Efficacy of a milbemycin oxime-praziquantel combination product against adult and immature stages of Toxocara cati in cats and kittens after induced infection
Two studies were performed to examine the efficacy of milbemycin oxime against fourth-stage larvae or adults of Toxocara cati. The number of worms found was significantly (p=0.0002) lower in cats treated with medicated tablets than in cats treated with placebo tablets.
Influence of bacteria and gentamicin on cooled-stored stallion spermatozoa
Certain bacteria may have detrimental effects on semen quality during cooled-storage. These effects are not reduced by addition of gentamicin. Gentamicin can negatively affect spermatozoal function in extended semen during cooled-storage. Therefore, optimal concentrations have to be tested for the respective extender medium.
Detection of betanodaviruses in apparently healthy aquarium fishes and invertebrates
Betanodaviruses are the causative agents of viral nervous necrosis (VNN) in cultured marine fish. A total of 237 apparently healthy aquarium fish (marine [65 species] and freshwater [12 species] fishes) and marine invertebrates [4 species], which were stocked in a commercial aquarium were collected from November 2005 to February 2006. Positive nested PCR results were obtained from the brains of 8 marine fish species, 1 marine invertebrate species, and 2 freshwater fish species. The detection rate in nested PCR was 11/237 (4.64%).

Benefits Of Digital Radiography; Website Comparing Computed Radiography (CR) To Direct Digital Radiography (DR), And Comparing Performance Of Different Systems
Digital can really diminish exposure variables. In my opinion, that’s the most significant error I see on referral films. I do not deny that positioning is also a problem, but to me it is second to exposure, or fogged film, bad screens, processor problems, etc.
Prolapsed Third Eyelid Glands: Excision Vs. Replacement In Neopolitan Mastiffs
Our thoughts about replacing the gland of the third eyelid are based on the best information that we have at the present moment. There isn't a lot of research money that is put into this topic.
Usefulness Of Class IV Lasers For Orthopedic Physiotherapy
For the moment, we must rely on our own clinical experience. That experience, however is so encouraging that it cannot be ignored, even with lack of scientific support. It would appear that high powered therapeutic laser (class IV) will be able to further expand the scope of laser therapy.
Ureteroliths: Surgical Techniques, Complications, And Monitoring During The Postoperative Period
When the bladder is open for a long time and gets edematous and pissed off, it can generate a difficult closure situation. This can put excess tension and pressure on the ureteral openings once you do get the bladder closed.
