New In VeterinaryPartner.com:

Paintball Toxicosis in Dogs
From January 1998 to January 2003, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) received 44 calls regarding paintball ingestion by dogs that subsequently developed clinical signs.

Feline Pemphigus Foliaceus: A Retrospective Analysis of 57 Cases
Triamcinolone was more successful at inducing remission without significant adverse effects than prednisone or prednisone in combination with chlorambucil.

Disposition and Analgesic Effects of Fentanyl in White Cockatoos (Cacatua alba)
Although the 0.2 mg/kg SC dose provided significant analgesia in some birds, fentanyl at this dose is not recommended as a routine analgesic agent because a large volume of drug must be injected and this dose causes hyperactivity in some birds.

Arthrotomy Versus Arthroscopy in the Treatment of the Fragmented Medial Coronoid Process of the Ulna (FCP) in 421 Dogs
It was possible in this study to demonstrate that in a large number of patients with FCP, arthroscopy is superior to arthrotomy. After arthroscopic surgery, considerably more dogs showed a regression of their lameness and recuperated very quickly after surgery. However, both methods have the disadvantage that arthrosis continues to progress.

Polyuria In Puppy
You can't rely on this 100%, but generally, if you have a primary polydipsia, the Na+ will be low. This is because the patient drinks a lot, that lowers the plasma osmo (reflected by the plasma N+ concentration), and that's the stimulus to turn off ADH so they make a dilute urine. It'll go the other direction for polyuria driving polydipsia. They pee a lot, plasma osmo and Na+ go up, that's the stimulus for for them to drink. PU drives the PD.

Acepromazine And Telazol In Cats?; Oral Buprenex
From the insert: "Phenothiazine-derivative drugs should not be used with Telazol because the combination produces respiratory and myocardial depression, hypotension, and hypothermia." Ok, so? High doses of ace with ANY drug will do the last two. And high doses of telazol will do the first two. So, don't use high doses of the drugs!

Dental Brain Teaser: Boxer Not Eating
Presented with an 11 month old boxer not eating for two days. Any takers on recommendations?

Power Equipment For Mimimal Orthopedics; Sterilizing Batteries?
I use a saggital saw from Stryker (Command II series) that I got as a used instrument. It's perfect for FHOs and the ilial cuts for TPO. Also nice for ulnar osteotomies and angular osteotomies.
