The Tower of Hope Honors Melissa Nixon, DVM
On Thursday, April 3, 2008, The Tower of Hope (TTOH) , an organization that improves lives through service and assistance dogs, is hosting their second annual "Lighting the Path" Gala in New York City, honoring VIN Member Melissa Nixon. If you were an active VINner during the Hurricane Katrina and Pet Food Recall crises, you will agree that Melissa is deserving of the recognition being bestowed upon her. Congratulate Melissa and learn more about TTOH, why Melissa was chosen and how you can join us on the evening of April 3 in New York City.
New Stuff on VIN!
Here are some of the most recent updates and additions on VIN:
What Do You Think?
There's always some healthy debate on the message boards. Join in on a couple of the more recent issues: Organizations sharing membership contact lists? VINners receiving unsolicited email offers from LocalVets.com led to a discussion on how organizations share, or don't share, their membership lists. What veterinarians do online A recent AVMA/AAHA survey on digital technology in veterinary clinics is generating some interesting conclusions and comments. ABVP 2008 Heads Down South The 13th Annual ABVP Symposium will be held May 2-4 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, located in the beautiful historic disctrict of Savannah, Georgia. Comparative oncology today
The value of comparative oncology has been increasingly recognized in the field of cancer research, including the identification of cancer-associated genes; the study of environmental risk factors, tumor biology, and progression; and, perhaps most importantly, the evaluation of novel cancer therapeutics.
Performing the field necropsy examination
This article is designed to aid the practitioner by maximizing the effectiveness of field postmortem diagnostic investigations. Contents include an outline of the procedure for field necropsy of ruminants, recommended tools and supplies, and guidelines for sample collection and submission.
Diagnostic considerations for evaluating nutritional problems in cattle
By taking a representative number of appropriate samples, it is now relatively easy and inexpensive to determine the nutritional status of an individual or a group of animals. Also, the effectiveness of supplementation programs can be measured over time as part of an overall preventive medicine program.

Negative reviews on the Internet
I am really chagrined by what the world is coming to. I am ready to write a rebuttal to the clearly plagiarized negative review and include the other negatives in my narration. It is just so frustrating to read such negativity (and untruthful!).
Update on miniature horse's prosthesis
The removable suture ring is an new innovation and this is the first one to be done that way. It does make the end result neater and eliminates the ledge that would exist at the interface site.
Pros and cons of offering Care Credit
We don't offer payment plans and Care Credit is often the way that people can pay for emergency costs. Also, those clinics that offer Care Credit will often have patients that transfer to them *because* of it.
