Want some free CE?
On Sunday, April 6, VIN's Rounds will present 1.5 hours of CE (for FREE!). Join us for The Role of Susceptibility Data in Antimicrobial Selection. - Having trouble sorting out which antibiotics to use without having a culture -- or even after getting back that culture?
- What exactly is MIC, and how do we interpret all those numbers?
Dawn Boothe, DVM, PhD, DACVIM, DAVCP, will explain it all! NOTE: All VINners can attend this Rounds session, but advanced registration is required in order to receive CE credit. If you wish to receive CE credit, you must register before 8 pm ET on April 3. To Register: Visit Susceptibility Data in Antimicrobial Selection and click on the Enroll Now link in the right-hand column. Going to SAVMA or AAHA this week? Stop by the VIN booth at the SAVMA (booth #1) and AAHA (booth #726) Conferences next week. We'd love to meet you and we will have plenty of computers available so you can check your email and keep up on VIN.

Pasteurized tumoral autograft as a novel procedure for limb sparing in the dog: A clinical report
A pasteurized autograft consisting of the resected primary bone neoplasm is a valid alternative to a cortical bone allograft for limb sparing in dogs with appendicular OSA in terms of feasibility and pattern of healing.
Thoracolumbar disc disease in large dogs: a study of 99 cases
Two types of disc disease were recognised: degenerative nuclear extrusion (n=63) and degenerative annular protrusion (n=36). Sixty-nine per cent of the affected discs were located between T12-T13 and L2-L3. Of the 63 dogs with degenerative nuclear extrusions, 35 were non-ambulatory and seven had no conscious pain perception at the time of presentation.
Neurological complications associated with spontaneously occurring feline diabetes mellitus
Compared to nondiabetic cats, diabetic cats exhibited a range of functional, structural, and biochemical defects that, depending on severity, manifested as striking neurological dysfunction.
Caudal proximal tibial deformity and cranial cruciate ligament rupture in small-breed dogs
Eight dogs presented with chronic hindlimb lameness associated with cranial cruciate ligament rupture. Seven were small terriers. A caudal deformity of the proximal tibial shaft, originating at the proximal tibial physis, and an excessive caudal slope of the tibial plateau were present bilaterally in all dogs

Chest Tube, Drainage, Cat
The tube itself will irritate enough to give you at least 1 ml/lb every 12 hours.
Avian Thermoregulation
Many of the marketed heating or incubator systems tend to fail to qualify their fundamental design (for altricial or precocial species), and, as a result, sometimes our heat support systems we are using are actually augmenting disease in specific circumstances.
Tacrolimus For Perianal Fistulas
I think it is important to stress to clients that this is a controllable disease rather than a curable one.
Possible Pure Red Cell Aplasia
If you have pure red cell aplasia, then treatment with Pred and Aza is appropriate, though not all respond. And responders can take many months to come good.
