Cytologic Patterns of Lymphadenopathy in Dogs Infected with Leishmania infantum
Abnormal lymph node cytology is much more common in dogs with clinical leishmaniosis than in dogs with subclinical infection, and primarily involves lymphoid hyperplasia. Despite finding no association between the density of amastigotes and type of lymphadenopathy, lymph node cytology still is a valuable diagnostic tool for diagnosing canine leishmaniosis.
Reports of Parallel Group-Controlled Clinical Trials: What Needs To Be There?
The randomized-controlled clinical trial [RCT] is the most reliable methodology for assessing the efficacy of interventions in veterinary medicine. However, there are a number of issues in the design and conduct of the trial, as well as the analysis, that must be carefully considered and described in the report to ensure that valid conclusions are made. In addition, the readers must be able to determine whether the reported results are applicable to the patients they routinely treat. Many trials are reported in the veterinary literature with crucial information missing, which leaves the reader wondering about the validity and generalizability of the results, or worse, not wondering about them when they should be.
Amputation of the Equine Distal Limb: Indications, Techniques and Long-Term Care

Assessment of the welfare of working horses, mules and donkeys, using health and behaviour parameters
Working animals provide an essential transport resource in developing countries worldwide. Many of these animals are owned by poor people and work in harsh environments, so their welfare is a cause for concern. A protocol was developed to assess the welfare of working horses, mules and donkeys in urban and peri-urban areas, using direct observation of health and behaviour parameters.

Aflatoxin Contamination Of Diamond Pet Foods: Contact Information, Treatments, And Prognosis For Affected Animals
Affected pets may have no clinical signs initially, so any exposed animals should be evaluated. Clinical signs are vague and include lethargy, inappetence, and vomiting. Also look for signs of jaundice and bleeding. Screening lab work should minimally include a chemistry profile and CBC, even in asymptomatic dogs. Look especially for low cholesterol, high bilirubin, and high ALT. Aflatoxins interrupt protein transcription at the DNA level and so may invalidate ALT alone as a true indicator of liver cell injury. Aflatoxin-B1 can be classified as a highly toxic compound (LD50 1-50 mg/BWkg) for most animal species ...
Options To Correct Urinary Incontinence, Including Information On New Urethral Implant, Collagen Injections, And Acupuncture
Interestingly, Bard-Parker has a new implant called Tegress which is supposed to be more or less permanent. Unfortunately, it was tested on pigs, and there's no research on its use in dogs.
Treatment Of Ethylene Glycol Toxicity In Cats (Ethanol And Fomepizole Information)
The use of ethanol and fomepizole 3 hours after ethylene glycol administration resulted in 25% recovery for ethanol-treated cats and 100% recovery in the 4-MP cats. On the downside, when treatment was delayed to 4 hours post-ingestion, there was 100% mortality regardless of protocol used.
