Evaluation of a canine D-dimer point-of-care test kit for use in samples obtained from dogs with disseminated intravascular coagulation, thromboembolic disease, and hemorrhage
The canine D-dimer point-of-care test kit can be quickly and easily used and reliably detects dogs with DIC or acute thromboembolic disease. Positive results may also be seen in dogs with internal hemorrhage.

Prevalence of thyroglobulin autoantibodies detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay of canine serum in hypothyroid, obese and healthy dogs in Japan
TgAA-positive results occurred in 10 of 19 hypothyroid, 1 of 28 obese, and 1 of 52 clinically healthy dogs. The clinically healthy TgAA-positive dog had additional evidence of hypothyroidism supported by low total T(4), low free T(4), and high canine TSH. Among the breeds, Golden Retriever had the highest frequency of hypothyroid (9/19) and TgAA-positive hypothyroid dogs (6/10).

Changes in ultrasonographic appearance of adrenal glands in dogs with pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism treated with trilostane
In a prospective study of 19 dogs with pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism, the adrenal glands were measured before, and at least 6 months after, initiation of trilostane therapy. Right adrenal gland length and caudal pole thickness and left adrenal gland caudal pole thickness increased significantly.

Poor replication of West Nile virus (New York 1999 strain) in three reptilian and one amphibian species
After inoculation with WN virus, some of the green iguanas, bullfrogs, and garter snakes showed low but detectable viral loads in the blood, oral or cloacal swabs, and/or organs.

Client Complaints: Are Men Worse Than Women?
Humility, politeness, and putting the other person's needs first are becoming a thing of the past. Whether it's road rage or client rage, I suspect it all has the same source.

AVMA Insurance: There's Got To Be Something Better (Or Cheaper)!
I just received my premium for my AVMA health insurance; since 2000, my premium has DOUBLED. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions for alternatives for a solo practitioner who would be the only member of my "group"?

Gecko With Sand Impaction
These lizards tend to eat substrate when there is not enough calcium in the diet. Also, the high chitin on the mealworms may contribute to the condition.

Rapid, Shallow Breathing During C-Sections; Mechanical Ventilators
Rapid breaths are usually HYPOventilating the alveoli since all that is moved is dead space gas, like panting. So very little iso gets to alveoli. I would suggest getting them deep enough in the first place. There is a great deal of hesitation to get a c-section bitch deep enough for fear of puppies. Well, hypoventilation and resulting hypoxia is bad for pups too!
