VIN Evolving For You!
The VIN Team is hard at work for you!

The VIN Wizards, Info Seeking Geeks, Tech Support Team, VINGRAM, Multimedia Team, CE Team, Consultants, Associate Editors, Reps, Reporters, Librarians, VSPN, eVetsites, VetVision, VeterinaryPartner writers and editors, Legal Support, Bookstore, Foundation, Board of Directors, Artists, VIN This Week Team and all who toil day and night making VIN, VSPN and VIN related services work for you and your staff are constantly tweaking and adding to our community.

Changes happen so often and so fast that we sometimes forget to tell you about them. That's BAD! We know it is.

We promise to do better at keeping you and all VINners informed about these changes.

Two recent changes of note are:

  • Beta.vin.com
    - If you want the latest and greatest and want to be on the "bleeding edge" of where VIN is going, make this your VIN Homepage.

    - Beta.vin.com has an all new and improved security system with the log out functionality many VINners have been asking for.

    - The "plan" is for Beta.vin.com to help speed the testing and release of new features. There are many features we have been playing with, but been afraid to release because they aren't fully "cooked." Hopefully Beta.vin.com will provide the "sandbox" where we all can play knowing that if it doesn't quite work as planned, we can retreat to good-ole VIN.com and find the tested and mature features and toolsets we've all come to trust. More details.

  • Presenter V2 Beta
    - This version of the Presenter (VIN's image viewer technology) is so cool that we pushed it live to VIN.com as well as Beta.vin.com. You'll find a link to the beta viewer below every image in the message boards. Click the link and play with it. You'll find that images enlarge without loss of resolution as you enlarge the viewing window. You'll also find many other features like panning and contrast and brightness Image Controls. More details .

NEWS THAT'S FIT TO CLICK and discuss
News reported for YOU...

Be a VIN Newshound:
VNS is here to give YOU a voice and report news that is important to YOU. Got an idea for a story? Have a story that needs covering? Post it on the boards or email News@vin.com .

Share News with nonVINners -- The VIN News Service (without access to the community discussions) is now publicly available at news.vin.com. Check it out and share it.

Get Your FAQs Straight!
The fastest route to an answer to your question is a VIN Database Search. But, because many topics have been discussed many times on the message boards, the number of "hits" you get can be overwhelming.

To help you, the VIN team of consultants (and other experts) continue to create up-to-date summaries (FAQs) of topics commonly discussed on the message boards. Save time -- check out the Medical FAQs, before you post.

Glucose homeostasis during canine pregnancy: Insulin resistance, ketosis, and hypoglycemia
In addition to insulin resistance, pregnant bitches have decreased ability to produce glucose via gluconeogenesis, glycogenolysis and lipolysis, because the normal multi-factorial responses to hypoglycemia are blunted late in pregnancy.

High-risk pregnancy and hypoluteoidism in the bitch
Whatever the cause of the risks to pregnancy, the goals of managing high-risk pregnancies are to optimize maternal, fetal and perinatal health, so as to maintain maternal health throughout pregnancy and lactation and maximize the number of healthy pups surviving to weaning age.

A pathogenic myxoma virus in vaccinated and non-vaccinated commercial rabbits
The disease was manifested firstly in the existing non-immune population of does and fatteners, and later in all vaccinated animals, being 2-3 months immune at the time of first symptoms.

The advantages of LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins) in the cryopreservation of canine semen
A medium containing LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins, the cryoprotective component of chicken egg yolk) was compared with egg yolk for the preservation canine spermatozoa during the freeze-thaw process.

Phishing scams
If you receive suspicious emails, DO NOT CLICK on any link. You can roll the curser over the link and it will show the address of the link without clicking it. In this case, the site that the link in the email was sending me to was to "we-do.ru" so it is OBVIOUSLY NOT the IRS.

Kosher diet for passover
This is a new one for me...a client told me that she needs to feed her two 6 month old kittens a kosher diet for Passover. This means no commercial cat food or anything that can be made into a grain (corn, rice, etc). Meat, fish and potatoes are all okay.

What are veterinary schools telling their graduates about their preparedness for private practice?
What I most heard was "you can't" followed by a verb like "do" "insert" "suture" and a procedure. My favorite was when I was told I could not insert a triple lumen central line because the un-certified tech had to learn how.

Management of canine intervertebral disc diseas: Nsaids vs. glucocortoids
This debate over using steroids versus not using steroids for both acute and chronic disc disease will go on indefinitely. I can say that I have probably changed my mind on this issue at least five or six times...

    Search Tip:
Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search:
    - Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search.
    - General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful.
For more help and tips on searching, see Steps To A More Effective Search.
