Use of Keyhole Lung Biopsy for Diagnosis of Interstitial Lung Diseases in Dogs and Cats: 13 Cases (1998-2001)
Results suggest that keyhole lung biopsy is an effective means for obtaining a specimen for histologic diagnosis in dogs and cats with interstitial lung diseases (ILDs).

Prospective Evaluation of Laparoscopic-Assisted Gastropexy in Dogs Susceptible to Gastric Dilatation
Laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy resulted in a persisting attachment between the stomach and abdominal wall, an absence of GDV development, and few complications. Dogs with a high probability for development of GDV should be considered candidates for minimally invasive gastropexy.

Surgery Alone or in Combination with Radiation Therapy for Treatment of Intracranial Meningiomas in Dogs: 31 Cases (1989-2002)
Dogs that underwent tumor resection alone and survived more than 1 week after surgery had a median survival time of 7 months (range, 0.5 to 22 months). Dogs that underwent tumor resection followed by radiation therapy had a median survival time of 16.5 months (range, 3 to 58 months).

Quantitative Study of 'Flame Follicles' In Skin Sections of Shar-pei Dogs
'Flame follicles' is the designation used to describe those hair follicles characterized by an increased amount of trichilemmal keratin. Upon microscopic examination of a longitudinal section of 'flame follicles', trichilemmal keratin appears as a bright eosinophilic and amorphous material that gives the impression of a flickering flame.
Investigation on the Use

Tachypnea In Lymphoma Dog / Interactions Between Antioxidants And Omega 3 Fatty Acids In Cancer Growth
This is a critical issue and one that literally could be a confounding factor on a day to day basis as many of our clients are giving antioxidants while we are giving chemo and radiation that induce oxidative damage as one mechanism of tumor cell kill. We found that tumor incidence and growth were decreased in rats with no added vitamin E in diet, suggesting a protective role of oxidized PUFA at later stages of carcinogenesis.

Sole Tougheners
Add a few tablespoons of bran into the turpentine. It makes it soooo much easier to work with. Seven percent iodine mixed 50:50 with formalin makes the best sole paint ever!

Preventing Back Pain When Doing Lots Of Surgeries
What do you guys do on long surgery days to lessen the strain on your back and joints?

Glucagon Injections To Treat Hypoglycemic Episodes?
Mike Schaer, an internist at the UF vet school, states that glucagon is quite simply able to save brain cells, while the oral glucose may not. The owner could give an IM injection of glucagon (vs. an IV injection of 50% dextrose) and this might mean the difference between brain scramble and not, by the time they can get the patient in to see you or the emergency room.
