Winn Feline Foundation & Miller Trust Working Together to Help You & Your Patients
The Winn Feline Foundation was established by the Cat Fanciers' Association in 1968 to create a source of funding for medical studies to improve the health and well-being of cats. The Foundation also acts as advisors to the George and Phyllis Miller Trust for selection of eligible research projects. Details on the six 2007 Miller Trust Grant awards are now in the VIN Library.

Rhodococcus equi infection in foals: the science of 'rattles'
This review addresses the clinical manifestation, bacteriology, and pathogenesis of the condition together with recent developments providing knowledge of the organism in terms of virulence, epidemiology, transmission, and immune responses. Reliance on vaccines alone, in the absence of management strategies to control the on-farm challenge is likely to be disappointing.
Efficacy of maropitant for preventing vomiting associated with motion sickness in dogs
In an exploratory study designed as a two-way crossover trial with 17 dogs, 10 of the dogs given the placebo vomited during a car journey but only three of the dogs vomited under maropitant treatment. In a larger multicentred parallel design study, 69 of 105 dogs treated with the placebo vomited during the journey compared with 15 of 106 dogs treated with maropitant.
Spontaneously occurring alimentary osteofluorosis associated with proliferative gastroduodenopathy in rabbits
Histologically, periosteal and endosteal hyperostosis and a mild to severe proliferation of the gastric and duodenal mucosa were noted. Results indicate that alimentary fluoride intoxication caused prominent bony proliferations in the examined rabbits. Whether the proliferative gastroduodenopathy is related to the elevated fluoride intake or represents an incidentally occurring secondary disease remains to be determined.

Domain name shuffle
Contrary to claims that emerged Wednesday, Network Solutions said it isn't "front-running" the Internet address registration process, a practice in which a company registers a potential domain immediately after a prospective buyer searches to see if it's available.
Staphylococcus hyicus urinary infection?
It would be unusual (but not impossible) to have a bacterial UTI at such a high urine specific gravity. Note that some stain precipitate reactions are pH dependent and will not occur unless the stain is mixed with a urine sample.
Treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in cats
We all feel that we "want to do something" and are frustrated when we realize that there may be nothing that we *can* do to alter outcome. We *can* teach the owners to watch for signs of congestive heart failure. That might be the best "prescription" we can offer them.

Get More From VIN! Search Tip: Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search: - Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search. - General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful. For more help and tips on searching see Steps To A More Effective Search.
