On the right hand side of the screen are the various time searches available.
There are 4 main choices:
FIND SINCE -- This option allows you to check the Message Boards/Folders for a specific time frame. The default time period for Find Since can be customized in MyVIN (main navigation bar).
FIND NEW -- This shows all messages (new threads, new replies to threads) added since FIND NEW was last clicked.
REDO FIND NEW -- This allows you to continue a Find New session that was interrupted by a computer problem. REDO FIND NEW allows you to keep redoing the FIND NEW search until you have finished it.
FIND ALL MESSAGES -- Allows you to access ALL messages for a particular Message Board/Folder.
On the left hand side of the screen is the list of the various boards and their folders.
The Associations And Foundations board has folders for various groups, such as AAFP, AAHA, etc.
The Vet Industry board is a collection of folders for various companies, such as Hill’s, Purina, Bayer.
The Vet To Vet board is where clinical questions are posted. This is where you can interact with specialists about cases, interact with others' cases, etc.
VIN Information is for posting questions about VIN. How to do something, how to make a search of the database work., etc.
You can choose to do a Find Since, or Redo Find New or a Find New on ALL the Message Boards, or on only a specifice Board or Folder. (However, if you use FIND NEW on only one Folder, the Find New is reset for ALL of the Folders - so a Find Since would usually be best when selectively choosing one Board or Folder.)

Associate (the Book)
Associate is designed to present disease information in a consistent and concise manner. These diseases are organized in chapters. The chapters are divided such that the diseases are either a disease of a system or causal diseases. Furthermore, the etiologies, clinical findings, procedures, and procedure findings are part of a standardized lexicon so that the same finding will be used in all the diseases where it is found. This is what allows the Associate knowledge bases to be used as a clinical decision support tool. Each disease description contains the following headings:
Disease nomenclature (including synonyms)
Disease description (brief overview, pathogenesis)
Etiologies
Breed predilection
Sex predilection
Age predilection
Clinical findings
Diagnostic procedures and findings
Preventive measures
Special considerations
Treatment
Bibliographic citation list
Zoonotic diseases are so marked after the disease name to highlight this fact for the clinician.
Associate (the Tool)
Associate is designed as a clinical tool, to teach an individual to think clinically. Associate takes you quickly and painlessly from signs and findings to diseases and syndromes. Associate is a problem solving information reference that fits the practice paradigm. Associate is a tool intended to help you organize your thoughts and widen your list of differentials to consider when data from hypothetical and real case scenarios are input.
Although a wonderful tool for widening the list of differentials to consider, it is important that the clinician recognize the limitations of "pattern matching".

If you'd like to practice working your way through a case (using the Tool function of Associate), feel free to use VIN's archived Public Health cases.
