COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide veterinary practitioners with a usable diagnostic approach to the common problem of periodontal disease. The common causes of the four stages of periodontal disease in the dog and cat will be reviewed, and then a standard diagnostic approach will be discussed. While both gingivitis and periodontitis will be covered, the emphasis will be loss of tooth support (periodontal disease) Treatment options for the various common disease presentations will be reviewed. One interactive session, with accompanying lecture notes, will be supported by a set of radiographic and clinical case images.
Interactive session - Discussion will center on the common causes of periodontal disease, and the standard non-invasive diagnostic approach to these diseases - including a standard method of doing a thorough physical examination of the gingiva. Various therapeutic options will be discussed.
