Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a practice session prior to the first RTS. Times and dates will be listed in your course confirmation email. Expect to spend up to 1 hour at one of the 2-4 practice sessions held prior to the first RTS.

Level and Prerequisites: Participants in this course should have an interest in learning more about managing different types of rodenticide poisonings and how the new EPA rodenticide regulations will affect them.

This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Course Description:
Participants will learn how to effectively manage poisoning cases by the three most common types of rodenticides including anticoagulants, bromethalin and cholecalciferol. Potential clinical signs, diagnostic testing, and treatment including decontamination and any appropriate antidotal therapies will be discussed.

This course consists of one (1) 90 minute Real Time Session; library materials supplementing the required articles; interactive message board discussions; and a mandatory end-of-course exam. Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of course-exam is required to be considered for the certificate of completion.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to

• Understand the new EPA rodenticide regulations.
• Understand the risks and clinical signs expected with each of the three most common types of rodenticides.
• Treat the three most common types of rodenticides intoxications.

About the Instructor: Dr. Camille DeClementi oversees the quality, consistency and integrity of the medical records for the following ASPCA programs: the Animal Poison Control Center, Bergh Memorial and the Spay/Neuter Programs. She also provides staff training in addition to being a media spokesperson for the Animal Poison Control Center on poisoning topics. Dr. DeClementi received her BS in Biology from Lebanon Valley College of Pennsylvania in 1990, and her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She practiced emergency and general medicine in Pittsburgh and Tennessee before joining the poison center in 1999. Dr. DeClementi became a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology in 2006 and the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology in 2007 and is a Certified Veterinary Journalist. She has spoken on various clinical veterinary toxicology issues and has authored peer-viewed articles for the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and Veterinary Medicine. Dr. DeClementi is a past co-owner of the Animal Emergency Clinic in Champaign, IL. <
