COURSE DESCRIPTION
The number of sheltering agencies in the United States grows annually, and positions for veterinarians to work in animal shelters are increasingly available. Shelter medicine is a unique and expanding area of the veterinary profession. This course is designed as an introduction to the field of shelter medicine - for those considering spending time in a shelter, those newly engaged in the profession, or those with an interest in finding out what shelter veterinary medicine is all about!

The course is primarily aimed at a veterinarian with minimal shelter experience but all veterinarians interested are encouraged to enroll. This course includes four, 2-hour real-time sessions and interactive message boards with the instructors.

Week 1 (November 23):
Intro to Animal Shelter Medicine (Miller)

Week 2 (November 30):
Common Wellness Protocols for the Shelter (Spindel)

Week 3 (December 7):
Spay/Neuter Services for Shelter & Community Animals (Makolinski)

Week 4 (December 14):
Population Management and Current Issues (Newbury)

MESSAGE BOARD DISCUSSIONS:
Discussions will begin on the start date of the course and will continue for 7 days following the last real time session.

Member/ $144, Non-Member/$223 by November 9, 2009;
Member/ $160, Non-Member/$248 after November 9, 2009
Course open to VIN and VSPN members.

If the course for which you are registered has more than a single real-time (RT) session, you can withdraw from that course after the first RT session and before the second RT session and receive credit towards a future VIN or VSPN CE course. If you are withdrawing because of special circumstances, your request will be handled on an individual basis; you can arrange for a prorated credit.
