Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a practice session prior to the first RTS. Times and dates will be listed in your course confirmation email. Expect to spend up to 1 hour at one of the 2-4 practice sessions held prior to the first RTS.

Level and Prerequisites: Participants in this course should know basic handling and behavior terminology; this course is geared toward the veterinarians and staff with an interest in avian handling, restraint and behavior.
VIN CE course: open to veterinarians and veterinary technicians/VSPN members. This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Course Description:
The Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) and the Veterinary Information Network (VIN) are collaborating on avian continual education courses with the goal to provide veterinarians and staff with solid basic avian medical knowledge that is applicable to everyday practice.

This course will integrate the methods of a clinician and behaviorist and apply them to avian handling, restraint and management of common behavior problems.

This course consists of two (2) 2 hour Real Time Sessions; library materials; interactive message board discussions; and an end of course quiz (80% minimum score required) designed to enhance course effectiveness and material retention.

About the Instructor: Dr. Lori Gaskins received her DVM degree from North Carolina State University, performed her residency in Animal Behavioral Medicine at the University of California-Davis, and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. She joined the faculty at St Matthew's University, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 and teaches animal welfare and behavior.

Dr. Brian Speer received his DVM degree from University of California, Davis. He is boarded with the European College of Avian Medicine and Surgery (ECAMS) in Avian Medicine and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Avian Medicine. Dr. Speer is currently owner and director of Oakley Veterinary Medical Center, and The Medical Center for Birds.

Course withdrawal and refund policy: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (This policy does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw retroactively.
