Course Description
This intermediate fish medicine course is designed to further your experience with fish medicine. The basic concepts will be expanded and applied to case examples. One week is devoted to an in-depth examination of Koi and goldfish diseases, some of the more popular and common fish brought to practitioners. The instructors are experienced fish practitioners who will provide important tips on running a fish practice as well as the important issues facing aquatic medicine.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Week 1 (3/9): Review of Beginning Fish Medicine
In this week, we will cover most of the basic techniques and information that is necessary for fish medicine. This will be a whirlwind of a review. Any areas needing further review, can be addressed in the later sessions.
Week 2 (3/16): Koi and Goldfish Diseases (includes � hr with Dr. Szignarowitz on KHV)
Koi and Goldfish, for many practitioners, comprise the major portion of fish cases. With both of these fish, there are concerns with a large community, particularly in ponds or tanks with multiple fish. An emerging Koi fish disease (koi herpesvirus) will be discussed in more detail, as well as its impact on the Koi industry.
Week 3 (3/23): Surgery in fish and lab submission differences
More in-depth discussion of surgery for fish will be presented. The appropriate biopsy samples for various diseases will also be covered.
Week 4 (3/30): Special issues-clients, etc.
This week will review those areas of interest for the participants, including client and financial issues, marketing, and aquatic veterinary practice by non-veterinarians. There will be a discussion of fish health regulatory medicine.

All course registrants please be aware that this is an intermediate level course, which assumes a basic level of knowledge on fish medicine. This basic level of knowledge may constitute completion of the Basic Fish Medicine course or past or current experience in a fish practice. Please read the course description and weekly outline carefully to judge whether this is the appropriate course for you.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY: Withdrawal prior to the listed start date of a course entitles the registrant to a complete refund or a credit toward a future VIN CE course, whichever is preferred. Withdrawal within 1 week after the listed start date (i.e. including no more than one real-time session) entitles the registrant to a credit toward any future VIN CE course. (Does not apply to courses with only one real-time session.) After the first real-time session, a registrant may withdraw due to special circumstances and receive prorated credit towards a future VIN course. These requests will be handled on an individual basis. The amount of the prorated credit will be determined based on 65% of the time remaining in the course at the time of withdrawal. It is not possible to withdraw retroactively.
