COURSE OBJECTIVES
This is an intermediate level course designed to familiarize the participant with the diagnosis, treatment of, and prognostic factors associated with the tumors most commonly encountered in veterinary practice. Participants will be instructed in the proper and safe usage of chemotherapy agents, as well as the indications and contra-indications of commonly used antineoplastic chemotherapy agents. Additionally, the participants will learn some of the basics of radiation therapy, and the appropriate applications of this to clinical cases.

The tumors to be discussed include lymphoma, mast cell tumors, mammary gland tumors, and soft tissue sarcomas.

In addition, there will be time for self directed discussion by the course participants.

The final section of the course will deal with the diagnosis and treatment of oncologic emergencies -- an integral part of any oncology practice. This discussion will cover both tumor-related emergencies (such as paraneoplastic hypercalcemia) and iatrogenic emergencies (such as chemotherapy-induced cytopenias).
