COURSE OBJECTIVES
With clinicians always "striving to be almost as smart as the world's dumbest kidney," the course will focus on the evaluation of the fluid and electrolyte status of clinical patients and the provision of optimal fluid therapy.

OUTLINE OF TOPICS

  1. Brief overview of body fluid compartments and their regulation.
  2. Assessment of patient fluid status and needs.
  3. Discussion of fluid types, including crystalloids and colloids.
  4. Selecting the best fluid in various clinical situations.
  5. Monitoring patients on fluid therapy.
  6. Self-testing, case-based problems. These will be posted after each session.

Discussions will begin on the start date of the course, and will continue for two weeks following the real time session.
